  1. Yea, I'll be running Ubuntu Server so it'll be entirely CLI to get everything installed and set up =]
  2. I'm going to be creating a guide on setting up a Media Server running Ubuntu server 13.10 soon. Hopefully that can show you the process/operation for Linux and help you make your decision =] If you'd be interested, let me know and I'll link it into this thread when it's done!
  3. Hi guys! I have a micro server turning up tomorrow and am planning on creating a friendly guide about the setup process. I'm just wondering how many people would be interested in this. Here's a list of the hardware: -> HP 704941-421 ProLiant Micro Server -> pre-installed 250GB HDD (OS Disk) -> 2x Western Digital Caviar Red 2TB (Storage) and here's a list of the software/configutarion I'm going to be running on the server: -> Ubuntu Server 13.10 -> ZFS Mirror (file system) -> SSH/openSSH (remotely connecting to the server from another computer) -> Ajenti (Web UI for Admin) -> Plex Media Server (Streaming content around your house) -> Subsonic (Stream music over LAN and WAN) -> git (Version control system) Let me know if anything above interests you or you have any suggestions for me to look into!
  4. Thanks for the replies! No overclocking, 750W corsair PSU, Drivers are up to date temperature are fine and afterburner is up to date. The only thing I can think of is that the CPU might be limiting itself as I'm using the stock cooler atm??
  5. While I was playing the new Batman game, I realised on the aMSI Afterburner Monitor that the GPU core clock was going no higher than 536MHz even though the GPU usage was at 100%. Tested it with Hitman Absolution as well and once again it stayed at 536MHz. Appears to be doing it with all my games. The Memory Clock does the same thing but at 810MHZ. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what is going on? Cheers
  6. Just trying to spread the word about this awesomely fun free-to-play game! 3rd person sci-fi shooter. Definitely worth playing. Free from Steam and it's only 1.1 Gigs! The best free-to-play game I've ever played! =]
  7. Hey guys! I've written a C++ console application to carry out series of mathematical calculations for my university course. In this I have used vectors to store and call values depending on the set selected. I'm now trying to create a GUI for this program using a Windows Form Application. It's been going well up to the point where I tried to use vectors. I did some digging online and found that I can use 'List' as a alternative. I can change out the 'push_back' function for the 'Add' function associated with Lists but I'm a bit confused about how to call the values again. When I used vecors, the command to call the value from a vector was "vectorname.at(position in vector)". Can anyone tell me the equivalent function relating to Lists?? Cheers for reading!
  8. A friend was looking for exactly the same thing and we ending up getting him this. It's a pretty good monitor! Good contrast ratio and everything else you would expect from the price range =] http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-S240HLbid-widescreen-monitor-Backlight/dp/B005QVZ79C/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1361902820&sr=1-1
  9. Hi guys! I've been bored recently and have started planning a PC to build soon! It will be running Ubuntu and mostly be used for media and backup, no gaming. I've got it to £275.29 at the moment for everything it will need. Just wondering if any of you had any suggestions to improve it whilst keeping the cost down! http://www.amazon.co.uk/registry/wishlist/355BQDB3HH5JQ Cheers!
  10. Playing the Beta, I got constant 120 fps with a GTX 670 using the High preset. Multiplayer was fun! A lot better than the 2nd game. Maybe I'll buy the full version when I have some money going spare =D
  11. Chips Challenge on the school PCs and was lucky enough to have a teacher who owned the original DOOM who let us play at lunch =D First DOS game ever was Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold. Ran off a floppy disk !!
  12. It won't even get as far as the BIOS. It powers down again before outputting anything to the screen, either from the GFX card or the onboard video =[ Thanks for all the help guys!
  13. He's on Windows 7 but it doesn't even get as far as the BIOS splash screen so I wouldn't have thought it was anything to do with that =[ Where he keeps it it'd be extremely difficult for anything like that to get in the top. I'm pretty sure it is the motherboard now. The POST speaker works fine as if I remove the RAM it gives off the 3 short beeps you would expect. Cheers for the help!
  14. Thanks for replying so quickly! Just tried it. No change =[
