  1. Agreed, it's getting amazing temperatures for a laptop, and even if it was clocking properly I doubt it would exceed 80C, it's a power saver issue as far as I can tell, and even then I might be wrong also, cause it seems he has already tried changing power states, so it could be a BIOS setting, some laptops when you disable Intel's power saving measure they lock the CPU at x8 multipliers. It would be nice if people would actually read the OP's post before commenting, this is clearly not overheating, and I seriously doubt that the OP is such an idiot that would know what Prime95 is and how to use it and still not know when his laptop is overheating.
  2. It doesn't look like it's overheating, if it did it would clock up to 2GHz, the temperature would then spike to 100+C and then the CPU would throttle down to 800MHz, but it doesn't seem to be happening in your case. Can you check to see what power settings you're using please? if you right click on the battery icon in the task bar it should say whether you're using power saver or high performance or balanced, and if you're using balanced or power saver then can you change it to High Performance and see if that changes anything. More specifically can you check that the CPU is allowed to go to 100% in the advanced power settings menu in the Control Panel.
  3. You should be able to force a BIOS flash, but I am honestly not sure how to do that, I know you can trip the backup BIOS into reflashing the main BIOS, but that isn't really a proper way to do it, but try downloading the same BIOS version you had originally from the website and flashing that, it might work. You certainly did dodge a bullet, a really big bullet, Gigabyte and most motherboard manufacturers won't RMA a board that's been bricked by BIOS flashing that went wrong, so it's a good job it didn't work, please don't risk it again though, you won't be as lucky next time. Gigabyte should still honour the warranty despite the BIOS flash though, as long as the board is not damaged by a BIOS flash they'll usually allow a warranty claim, they were amazing in my case when my board got fried by a freak lightning strike, so they should be ok with you claiming on the warranty in your case. You can try the CPU in another board, but I can guarantee that it'll not have that issue, but try it anyway, might as well if you can. Definitely check the temperature, but as long as the thermal paste was applied correctly it shouldn't have degraded in that short amount of time, good quality thermal paste will usually last upwards of 2 years or more and as long as you cleaned the dust out regularly it should be fine.
  4. Have you tried fitting the H110 in the front? If the tubes reach then I'm sure the R5 takes 2x140mm fans in the front, and you could try fitting it there and keeping both rather than having to spend more money.
  5. The only way you can make that faster is to take it out in your car onto a motorway, get up to about 70MPH and open the window and throw it out, cause that is the fastest you will ever get that laptop to go. But seriously, you can buy an SSD which would improve responsiveness, and buy and install Windows 8.1 which is quicker, but not by much. Apart from that, it really isn't worth bothering with, you might be able to upgrade the CPU, but the effort and cost involved is much more than the laptops value and you would be better off buying a second hand laptop with a 2 gen Core i series CPU and a decent dedicated GPU and running that, you can pick one up for roughly £400-500 (or $US if that's what you use) and that would be far better than trying to breathe life into a system that cost about as much as a pack of chewing gum to make.
  6. Try setting Spread Spectrum to 0.01%, that is near enough off anyway so you might as well try it, it won't hurt anything even if it doesn't fix anything either. Definitely give using different RAM and a PSU a try, it may work and again, there's no harm in trying it, and also try the latest BIOS, but please, for all that is holy do not use the Windows based flashing tool, you might get away with it once, you might even get away with it twice, but it will fail one day, and when it does you'll have a very large and very expensive paperweight and trust me, all your current problems will fade into nonexistence when it does. Hopefully using the latest BIOS will fix the issue, but I think it's crazy that they still haven't fixed the cold boot bug, that's put me off buying a Gigabyte MoBo now, don't get me wrong they make great boards, but I've dealt with enough cold boot issues to never want to see another one for as long as I live, and I'd rather have one of those ultra cheap desktops from HP with the mobile processor and external PSU before suffering it again.
  7. Hey, just took a look and it looks like you need to update your Ethernet drivers, and also update your WiFi drivers if you have a WiFi card installed too because the last file in memory was AFD.sys which is to do with networking. I'll check through the rest of the dump files and let you know if anything else caused the BSOD's. Edit: The previous BSOD was a Driver Power State Failure caused by the AFD.sys file, so yeah, definitely update your Ethernet drivers and keep an eye on the system, if you have any other BSOD's then let us know, but just to be certain could you make sure to update all of your other drivers as well, some of your drivers are more than 3 years old, so check to see if newer drivers are available.
  8. I'm sorry to hear that you're still having issues, but I agree that you're probably better off taking it to someone who is nearby and can help you better. I was hoping that we could help you solve your problem, but it wasn't to be unfortunately, good luck with getting it working though, and if you have any more problems then don't be afraid to drop by and ask, there's always someone willing to try and help.
  9. That's great to hear, could you choose the correct answer if you feel that your issue has been solved. Cheers
  10. That is odd, can you upload the dump files and I'll try to find time to take a look, unfortunately I'm really busy today, but if I can get them before I have to go out I can take a look for you. These BSOD's are different though, so it isn't firewire causing it this time, it's coming up as a DPC violation, but without the memory dumps there isn't much I can tell you at the moment.
  11. It would be best if you could double check, if it is the same laptop then I'm stumped, and maybe a fresh install of Windows and downloading only the drivers you need before anything else might help. I'm going to bed now cause it's nearly 2:30AM here, so I'll try to respond tomorrow, good luck in the meantime, and hopefully you can get it fixed soon.
  12. Are you absolutely certain that your laptop is a GT70 2OC 096US? Cause that is the one I linked you to, and none of those drivers are working, so you simply cannot have that model of laptop, and the thing that seals it for me is that you don't have an Intel WiFi card, you're using an Qualcomm/Atheros WiFi card, so you must have a different model.
  13. Hmm, very strange, not sure whats going on with the DP connector, but at least we know that the onboard GPU is working, and OS X is a strange beast on none Apple hardware, it might need some fernaggling to get it going, it took me absolutely ages to get OS X working on my desktop, and even when I did there was always something not working right, I no longer have it installed and I can't remember most of the things to do with it so I'm afraid that I won't be much help for you with getting the hackintosh up and running unfortunately.
  14. That is odd, very odd, are you absolutely certain that the Intel GPU isn't disabled? You might have set it to choose integrated video first, but it may be that it is still disabled in the UEFI. I would put your dedicated GPU back in and make sure it isn't disabled, you'll want to reference your motherboard manual to find out where the options for the integrated GPU are.
  15. Okay, first off, can you download from MSi's website here the Intel Chipset Drivers for Windows 8.1 64bit please? Reboot and then download and install the Intel Management Engine Driver, and then the Killer Ethernet Driver, and then the RealTek Card Reader driver. You apparently have an Atheros WiFi card, not an Intel WiFi card, which is why the drivers off the website wouldn't work, can you uninstall the Intel WiFi drivers for now and we'll come back to that once you've done the rest? Cheers
  16. Is this the system in your sig? If so can you remove the dedcated GPU from the system and see if you get video then? It could be that the dedicated GPU is causing issues with the UEFI, which does happen.
  17. I can see more of what's going on now, can you right click on Ethernet Controller in Device Manager and go to properties, then go to Details, and then in the drop down list can you change it to Hardware IDs and then copy the first PCI\VEN ID please? Do this for all of the devices with a yellow triangle, that way I can figure out what drivers you actually need. Cheers
  18. So when you boot the system into Windows you're running off the Intel GPU? And it displays correctly? And when you try booting into OS X there is no output? If that's the case then it is probably to do with OS X, and you need to try fiddling around with the boot options for OS X and see if that helps, it's been a long time since I tried a Hackintosh so I can't remember the boot options, but I do remember the -v option, that is for verbose and it might help you figure out the issue.
  19. Might seem a silly question, but have you plugged the monitor cable into the motherboards onboard connectors?
  20. Is there a WiFi disable/enable button on the laptop? Or do you think you might have knocked the WiFi antennas loose when you upgraded the laptop? Can you take a screenshot of Device Manager and upload it please so that I can see what you're seeing, it might help us figure it out better, in fact, can you take a screenshot of the whole screen please?
  21. That option only sets the PhysX to use the GPU, follow this video to set the options manually.
  22. Can you try installing the latest drivers for Vista please? 344.75 are seriously outdated and you might have better luck with 353.30 instead. I get why you want to use an older version of Windows for older games, but have you tried installing the games with Compatibility mode? Admittedly I haven't tried a great deal of games, but most of them work quite well in Compatibility mode for me, and it might be better for you to try that instead. But give the newer drivers a go first, and if that doesn't work then try Compatibility mode instead if you haven't already.
  23. Are you running Windows 8.1 64bit? Or are you running the 32bit version? You can check by going to Control Panel-->System & Security-->System and looking at "System Type" If you're running a 32bit version of Windows then you really should install the 64bit version, but if you can't then download the 32bit drivers for Windows 7, and install them by setting compatibility mode to Windows 7 Service Pack 1. That error is so unbelievably generic that there is literally nothing useful that can help diagnose what is going on. Can you try something else please? Right click on the Windows logo in the bottom left of the screen and click on Device Manager. In the window that opens can you go to Network Adapters and expand the list to show the options there. (If there are any with a yellow triangle can you let me know what they are) Now right click on the WiFi card and click on Properties. In the window that opens can you go to the Details tab and in the drop down list can you change the option to Hardware IDs, and then copy the top PCI\VEN ID here and then I can try and find what the actual WiFi card is and find the correct drivers for you. do the same for your Wired Ethernet device and I can try and find the correct drivers for you, I have a feeling that the drivers you think you need and that I think you need are wrong, and we need to find the correct ones or we'll be going round in circles.
  24. Well, that's odd, are you running a 64bit version of Windows 8.1? And is the ethernet the Killer Bigfoot one? If it is, then could you try using the cleaning tool inside the zip file and then reboot and reinstall the drivers. As for the Wireless, could you try uninstalling the drivers, and then go into Device Manager and uninstall the drivers from there as well, reboot your laptop and then install the latest drivers off the website and try again? Make sure you choose Win 8.1 64bit from the drop down list here if it doesn't link correctly to the Win 8.1 drivers.
  25. LMAO, that 's funny. But don't worry about it, I've had similar derps before, I spent over an hour looing for my glasses once only to realise that I had been wearing them the entire time.
