i almost forgot statussing about this:

today i asked my boss what's special about the barco monitors at a client of ours..

spec sheet wise they're pretty normal: IPS, 60Hz, 100% sRGB/adobeRGB, not especially bright, that sort of jazz..

where they are special... is in that they self-color-calibrate EVERY 4 FLIPPING SECONDS

and they then send the results of said calibration straight to barco to make sure they're not showing any oddities.

huh? how can you calibrate without a device looking at the display externally?

i guess it has layers in front of the display "recording" what the pixels are doing, which is why its about as thick as a CRT and not especially bright looking.

I found Barco's documentation on one of their monitors that do that, but it's just marketing, it doesn't actually explain anything...

I'd love to know how they do that...

knowing how they do that, is why they're worth the money ;)
