  1. I wouldn't mind having one. Just the sheer novelty aspect will probably take a week to wear off.
  2. This will go into a photography and video processing machine. I'll take out my 4790k and use that for custom case testing and general spare parts.
  3. A lot of fans, but not really any info I can use. I am most interested in noise levels vs air moved at minimum fan speeds. Or actually testing what minimum fan speeds are. Instead, it shows 7V noise levels where most fans will have a differing speed range and max speed. This way we can compare 2 fans operating at a certain RPM and see which one moves more air, but then you can also look at noise. Although they did a 30db chart, i want to see much lower noise levels as well. I'm not going to have 3-5 case fans running at 30db each.
  4. The best 550W PSU after research (for a friend's build) came to Seasonic G-550 or CoolerMaster V550 (same as the G-550 i believe). But at the top end (in this price range) they all come pretty close.
  5. I'm aware of the tradeoffs. In my configuration, these 4 fans will do the job of 1 or 2 fans and spin at low speed. Theoretically it should be enough airflow (in combination with CPU intake and GPU intake direct from outside). There are many other factors that wil affect noise so I can't know for sure until I have a metal prototype. Both fans look powerful, too powerful. But good to add to my database.
  6. I'm designing a case and will be building a prototype once the unconventional frame is worked out. It will use 4 slim 120mm or 140mm fans, I will probably end up prototyping both to compare results. So naturally, i've been looking into all kinds of fans and slim fans. I know that fan stats are not always accurate and there is no standard, nor is there accurate controlled testing on 99% of fans to verify stats. Which ones are the best? Which ones exist? At the moment, I believe the prolimatech sleek vortex 120mm and 140mm are the best. They suit my needs by having a very low minimum and PWM (400RPM min). Raijintek, cryorig and silverstone are a few other 15mm slim fans off the top of my head. Been using frostycpu's great page of all fan sizes and thicknesses to help out. I might try out some 12-13mm ones but they might be a bit weak in terms of performance/noise.

    Case fans!

My top suggestion and it's partly biased because I own one - NZXT phantom 530. It has excellent airflow options among other features you'd expect from a case at this price bracket (should be around $120 in the US, $170ish in AU). You can fit 2x 200mm fans at the top or a 280/360 rad. A single 200mm at the front comes with the case but it only fits a thin circular bracket fan (spectre pro 200mm doesnt fit). Rear and side fit a 140mm but that is standard. HDD bracket inside has a fan mount to further direct air towards the GPU but I don't bother. Having bigger fans means quieter operation while moving the equivalent air as faster/noiser but smaller fans. Definitely a case that will last forever or until you get bored of it and want to change case. But functionally, it couldn't be much better.
  8. Was interested in this but defintiely not getting it. It's a bit small and the keys wobble.. The micro USB cable is a very good idea imo. I have a G700s which I absolutely love and discovered the micro USB cable is extremely handy. It's a full wireless mouse however. When I run out of battery, I can plug in a cable which I normally have near my table. I use 5m long flat USB cables bought off ebay - feels like it's not wired at all. Can't stand thick mouse cables. Why would you want an invisible force swaying your mouse ever so slightly?
  9. Favourite would be the TrueQuiet fans. Very quiet with nifty speed control for those without fan controllers. PSU comes close because of the included silicone rings/bands.
