  1. Hi All, my XPS 15 has updated to 23H2 but the new file explorer is not showing... any ideas why or how to enable it? thanks
  2. id take a look at reviews of their customer service and warranties. ASUS seem to have a sketchy past recently on things like this... so possible worth watching some reviews on the both of the companies.
  3. Change passwords NOW. if your bank details are on paypal, get a new card. reinstall windows on your PC. do not attempt to recover the isntall, you could end up far worse. just reinstall windows, change all your passwords. dont log into an account without changing its password.
  4. Agree.. just an extract from another comment of mine as I think it fits well.. as a member of this community since NCIX days and frankly since my child hood, I want to see Linus come out of this, I want to see him in more fun off the cuff content like the old days. the community loves the vloggy style content. whole room water cooling was one of the best things LTT ever produced more crazy projects like that please. its been undoubtedly a rough week for Linus Tech Tips. but no one has anything to gain from him being berated and attacked over this. yes people are mad, but there are 120 real people working with Linus that depend on him for their Mortgage, rent, food and car payments. he is responsible for 120 incomes. so I think we need to allow LTT a chance to rectify this.
  5. I mean.. I think GN had valid points originally, I think Linus' first response was emotional, and responding when emotional is always a bad idea. remember this is his life work, he has spent over 10 years passionately building this thing. its not easy to be criticised. and I think there second video, was good, honest and I hope they stick to the points made. secondly, I think Chris, and people like that, are using the situation to attract an audience, Chris' views were fairly neutral, likely because he doesn't want to completely side with one or the other and risk the outlast from the LTT audience. all im interested in is how Linus and his team fix the issues and move forward in a positive and consumer oriented way. as a member of this community since NCIX days and frankly since my child hood, I want to see Linus come out of this, I want to see him in more fun off the cuff content like the old days. the community loves the vloggy style content. whole room water cooling was one of the best things LTT ever produced more crazy projects like that please. its been undoubtedly a rough week for Linus Tech Tips. but no one has anything to gain from him being berated and attacked over this. yes people are mad, but there are 120 real people working with Linus that depend on him for their Mortgage, rent, food and car payments. he is responsible for 120 incomes. so I think we need to allow LTT a chance to rectify this. as you were.. 6. do a video ticking this box and reviewing how well amazon can fit different products
  7. For the love of god LTT… a video we need to see relating to that dell laptop you just released a video on is 1 of 2 options (or both for extra brownie points) 1. watercool the thing… 2. build the chassis with a new set of components for the ultimate sleeper, using maybe a frame work laptop chassis. Those guys are so flexible and with all the 3d printers you could definitely make it work! Not sure how the display would function but I’m sure you can make it work! You have overcome bigger challenges!! Finally… get someone to daily drive it for a week
  8. Have you played Cyberpunk? i may have taken a slight amount more enjoyment than i shoud have at the panam in the tank scene!
  9. You'd need to source unbuffered ECC memory to get traditional ecc functionality yes, with regards to those specific modules, they are server memory, so im not sure how using them with a non server board & CPU will work out, your mileage may vary, i have used ECC on a desktop platform in the past and has success.. unfortunately, its going to be one of those things where you may just have to try it, make sure the motherboard is rated for ECC & CPU and you *Should be fine. thanks
  10. i think someone has fallen in love with an eGirl ?
  11. Ok, fair enough... so DDr5 was advertised as having "On Die ECC" the On Die ECC is more relating to reliability than data retention / protection. as the memory modules increase in size the cells inside get closer together, making them more venerable to bit flips. on Die ECC is a way of protecting against that as I understand it. so it will protect against Thermal Bit Flips however once the data is moved out of memory there is no ECC in that instance. if you want traditional end to end ECC (protection during data transfer) then there is DDR5 ECC available, such as the Kingston: KSM48E40BD8KM-32HM 32gb kit. hope this helps!
  12. No, he would have to reinstall to go to a 64bit system, however the slowness of the system is likely to do with the storage, if its a 32bit system I'm gonna go out on a limb and say its a HDD? and likely an old one at that. an SSD & a clean install of windows 10 would be the best bet. & a ram upgrade if still running 2!
  13. can i ask, what's the use case for the workstation?
  14. defo would say that's a good deal!
  15. Hello, i am currently in the process of planning my next upgrade to my system, current spec is below: FRACTAL MESHIFY C Z390 PRIME I9 9900K 32GB gSkill Trident Z 3000MHZ RAM HX 850I RTX 2080Ti to be honest, I am wanting to upgrade the 9900K mostly, my current RAM is not stable at all, its an original kit of Trident RGB from gSkill, XMP no longer works and crashes the system instantly, because of this, i also cannot enable resizable BAR it just crashes my system outright. and i do get some memory related crashes, Re the CPU I'm fairly confident i am going to go with the i9 13900K, just deciding on the Motherboard & Memory to go with which is where i am looking for the advice. id like to keep the motherboard around £350 & the memory less than £200 for 32GB i had the following in mind: MSI Intel MPG Z790 EDGE WIFI DDR5 ATX Motherboard Corsair Vengeance RGB Black 32GB 5200MHz DDR5 Memory Kit also - my power supply is a HX850i from corsair, its around 5 years old now and has never skipped a beat, its 80+ platinum and has been rock solid all the way through, is it worth upgrading it or should i stick with it... Thanks Liam
  16. Hello, hoping someone can lead me to my next step as I am really struggling to troubleshoot this one! i have the following setup. 2 x Dell SE2722HX Monitors, 1 WD19TBS & an XPS 15 9520 the laptop is connected to the TB Dock and then the dock to the monitors by DP to HDMI cables. we had a power cut at our office, and a generator kicked in to cover the office, the generator is a 70s Caterpillar and does not provide stable clean power. since then, my monitors will randomly go black for a split second like they loose power, the backlight goes off and all, completely go off, but the power LED stays on, the laptop does not see a disconnect and the screen does not show me the no signal so its not actually disconnecting just dropping out for a second. here is what i have tried: New WD19TBS (twice) including power adapter new XPS15 9520, i had a 9510 before but am using a completely brand new machine now to test this. new HDMI cables, new Power cables. the only thing i can think is the screens have been affected by the bad generator? we have had a bad generator cause a few sensitive electronics to play up before such as printers, unfortunately the power for our office comes from a farm and we cannot control the power source as we are in the middle of no where! we have UPS' on most of the equipment but these screens are straight into the wall. any help would be appreciated! thanks
  17. if the PSUs Age is the same as the rest of the system i would highly suggest upgrading it before anything else. aim for 750 id say for an RTX 2060. also the rest of the system will cause you some bottlenecks, tbh most of it needs upgrading, there are certainly some good price to performance deals out there at the minute, id look at the PSU first for sure however.
  18. USB C does not necessarily mean its a thunderbolt connection. USBC is the connector. if it has thunderbolt. there is usually some sort of thunderbolt control center installed. check in start and see? in a 400$ laptop id say its unlikely though
  19. Does it BSOD? or just crash the program, if a BSOD, use Blue Screen Viewer to see what the problem is coming up as. however if youre 100% sure its your SSD, then its likely going bad and theres not allot you can do at that point, try a reinstall of windows, but RMA it if you can.
  20. I mean...thats a propper chonky boy... try the Toshiba Qosmio G30 17.3 inch. propper chunky laptop too lol...intrested to see how this goes for you
  21. try unplugging all HDDs, coolers, fans, and just booting the pc with the cpu power, mobo power, and gpu power plugged in, if it works, your issue is in one of the others, if it doesnt then you can start working out which of the 3 is causing your issue, if you now cant use the old GPU either, sounds like a motherboard misconfiguration / problem
  22. what power supply do you have? did you use the correct cables? any adapters from 6 pin to 8 pin etc?
  23. its the length of the cable if i had to put money on it, have dealt with a similar thing before. and a shorter cable / lower res was the only way i could overcome it
  24. Ok, might be worth choosing a CPU first, im not saying don't buy a motherboard first, but if you're going to chose a highend cpu you may want something with better power delivery etc, but if a lower end cpu then a mid range mobo will suffice.
