  1. Hi, I have came across a second hand NanoHD for around $54 in my local area and thinking if it's still a good AP to get in 2022. Wanted to upgrade from an old AC router that is very weak in its wifi ability. I know wifi 6 have been for a few years, but in a 1 bedroom apartment and only about 10 device max, would a NanoHD be a good buy?
  2. Budget (including currency): $10000 HKD (around $1290 USD) Country: Hong Kong Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Cyberpunk 2077, League and possible future AAA at 1080 or 1440p Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): So a friend of mine ask me to build him a gaming pc for Cyberpunk 2077 and other casual games like league, valorant and future AAA to play at 1080/1440 at 75 hz or higher. My plan is to get a Ryzen system with the following parts: CPU: 3600 or 5600x Motherboard: B550 m-atx boards (budget to mid range like B550m Ds3H) GPU: 3070 SSD: 1TB Sata Ram: 16gb 3600 mhz PSU: 550w I just want to ask if the 5600x is worth it for me to ask my friend to use all the budget or the 3600 is still worth it for at least 3 years of gaming?
  3. HI, I am currently trying to recover my hard drive's data, which seems to have problems due to bad sectors. My pc freezes when ever the drive is connected to it, therefore I am trying to recover it using my mac (freezing problem doesn't occur). I don't have any experience on this, and got a software called Disk Drill which indicated with a problem of bad sector causing OS not recognising the hard drive. I am using the recovery option on that software to try, but the recovery software is stuck on a block and not really working. So any suggestion for Mac or PC (even with like a boot loader key) to recover the drive so I can copy files off it to a NAS? PS: I was starting to backup that drive, but only able to do 10% of it before this happened. Also, no clicks or anything mechanically bad on the drive as of right now. Thanks
  4. Just as the topic, I'm currently deciding between the UAP-AC-Pro, Netgear Orbi or Asus AC68u as an upgrade to my existing Wi-Fi solution. I'm currently using a belkin AC1750 DB..., which doesn't have the best connectivity according to the internet and my own experience. If I'm going for the UAP route, I'll use the (old) belkin as the router and UAP as AP. For the Orbi and AC68u, they both are router, AP combo, so I can just set it and it will be fine. However, I would really like to know the wi-fi connectivity and stability of the 3 and choose it base on that. I have a "gigabit" up and down network, so I want my wireless clients to get a proper connection even if I might be getting only 25% of the gigabit speed with WiFi. Thanks, Jason
  5. The pricing is close at best, Ryzen 2 would be slightly higher tbh because of ddr4 pricing and I’m not even sure can I go with cheap ddr4 2400 or I have to get some high priced ones with more MHz. You reminded me about warranty I completely forgot to think about this factor. So I’m still thinking... a lot to consider
  6. Hi everyone, I’m planning on a Gaming Vm with nas server on one machine, but I’m thinking if I should buy a second hand x79 system with an i73930k or go for a ryzen 5 2600 system brand new. The price on both side would be similar due to items like ram being overpriced on the Ryzen side. I want to know on performance side of thing and general opinion on what I should choose.. thanks guys
  7. 1) I might think about windows 10, but I originally chose Unraid is because of it's file system that can put any drive with any size yet allows to have a parity drive. (I actually have a WD red 3tb and some old laptop drive that I can throw into it for creating a bigger pool - not optimal but helps my budget) I am not sure if windows can do that without a raid card. 2) I do think running router on a seperate box is more ideal, but because of the family factor, I think its better to run everything on one box. However, I might consider getting a second hand pc to act as a backup router, when ever I mess with this server 3) In terms of pcie slots, I plan to use the first slot for the 4 port nic, the x16 slot for gpu and the other x16 slot for the 10 gbe nic. And to create another slot for the hba, I am thinking to use a m.2 to pcie converter (similar to: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/M2-riser-card-M-2-NGFF-To-16x-GPU-Usb-3-0-Extender-Riser-SATA-to/32821306652.html ) which is something i like to know if anyone tried and if this works
  8. I am getting a 4 port nic for my pfsense vm, the motherboard only has 1 realtek nic which is not enough and recommend for pfsense I’m still thinking about the m.2 drive, don’t have any plan yet but 1 m.2 slot will be converted for sata hba asvthe board only have 4 and I am planning to add more drive in the future. I think windows server might be too high in price for my home server use unless I’m wrong
  9. Hello everyone, I am seeking for some advice for my upcoming Unraid server build. I had used Freenas before and after a few years of not having a personal server, I felt the need for another one, which is better then ever. I also wanted to put a Windows 10 VM for In Home streaming gaming to my laptop or tv via Steam or moonlight from time to time. While having another VM for pfsense to take control of my home network from a cheap wireless router with maybe 10 gbe later on. AND have unraid run plex docker for media stream. My plan for hardware is: CPU: Ryzen 2700 Motherboard: Asrock b450m-pro RAM: 8/16 gb ddr4 (cheap one with high frequency in mind) Graphic card: GTX 1070 Case: Fractal node 804 Addon: - PCIe 4 port intel gigabit nic - PCIe 2 port intel 10 gbe nic (rj45) - from ebay - LSI 9201-8i (HBA) - m.2 to pcie adapter Storage: - 4 4tb ironwolf - 1 850 evo ssd 265gb for cache I can't really get x79 motherboard that I would like from the second hand market from where I live, or at least not at a price that I like, so x79 xeons are out of the question... So I got a few questions: - Is the specs good? - Have anyone tired this and have a guide on how to pass the internet traffic from pfsense vm to the windows vm? - Are m.2 to pcie adapter good enough for a sata hba (speed is not really required as the hba will mainly use for harddrive so I think it's fine?)? Any other advice is great. This is still at a planning stage and I'm still earning money for the server, so any changes is possible. Hope you all have a wonderful day
  10. I think I should have an ssd because I am currently using a hdd as my boot drive that's slow and seems like on it's last leg as it's 5 years old. I think every computer should have a ssd as it has no moving parts and allows data to be safe and have fast access times Thanks for the giveaway
  11. Hey guys, I'm currently still using my 6850 as my gaming graphics card and it's been overclocked for more than a year and knowing that the temperature does not go over 50 degrees made me wanted to overclock it further, which I did. But when I tries to validate the new overclock, the amd driver kept on crashing, but temperatures stays around 52 degrees, I have no idea is my overclock settings too high or just the driver's problem. PS: didn't change the core voltage because it's locked in afterburner and even checking the unlock core voltage thingy doesn't help thanks in advance Jason
  12. Well I think getting a larger ssd will probably be a better idea, but the matter of fact I don't really have the money. However, I would love to try using RAID 0 and I do have a 3TB harddrive (over kill) in my computer as the mass storage and probably use it for the cloning of the os when I create the RAID. I do think RAID makes the drives easier to manage and linus got 8 drive RAID, so I'm thinking of doing it just cause I can. But the question is is it a good idea to RAID new and old drives together?
  13. Hello members of the forum, I am currently using an intel 330 120gb ssd as my boot drive and for my most frequently used applications. But after sometime of using it plus a few software update, the ssd is lacking of space and the speed is noticeably slower (still faster than hdd). Currently I have a bit of cash and should I get another 330 or 530 to raid it with my current one to boost the speed and size of my drive? Hope to see any replies
  14. Merry Christmas to the guys in Linus Media Group :3 And hope more great content in the year of 2015
