  1. GTX 900 power and efficiency, and the sex appeal and quiet performace of a triple slot cooler? Yes please.
  2. Zero Carb Rockstar (it has the most caffeine of the "regular" energy drinks, plus it's red and some sort of berry flavored which makes it stand out), espresso, BAWLS (before they switched to corn syrup), blue redbull, the lemonade Rockstars, and pretty much any sort of coffee prep provided the beans are decent. I basically subsist on caffeine a lot of the time. It's not a good thing.
  3. It runs better than it did, and the mods make it look good. I don't think that made it a better game, however...
  4. Quiescent is a word. It means inactive or dormant. Them using it is pretty much akin to that kid in your 10th grade English class going on thesaurus.com and replacing random words with pretentious words they can't pronounce in an effort to make his shitty, half-plagiarized essay appear decent, though.
  5. The 280x is a solid card. It's basically a 7970, which was the top-level GPU from AMD last generation. You can most definitely game with it at ultra/high settings 1080p and get good fps. Everything d3sl91 said is good advice. The salesman was either unknowledgeable, trying to take advantage of you, or both.
  6. I'll take a look at it. Thanks, man!
  7. Have you used the site before? Is it any good?
  8. Hey guys! I'm in college right now, and the the directions I'm leaning in major-wise all require quite a bit of math. I'm relatively good at math, but I hated math classes in high school. Because of this, I (for better or worse) made the decision to stop taking math after my sophomore year, so it's been a few years since I've actually done math other than basic day-to-day stuff with any frequency. Long story short: I want to refresh myself on my math skills and fill in any gaps before I take math classes at my college. I've looked at Kahn Academy, but they seem to have changed their format since I last used it. Now there's all this stuff about points and levels, and my assessments seem to have questions from multiple sections for some reason. Regardless, unless it's not weird anymore, it's not ideal. I also checked Lynda.com, since Linus has the referral and it also has stuff for coding and the like, but it doesn't seem to have math tutorials. But if there is a site that has math and that sort of stuff that's good, that's a plus. I don't mind paying for something if it is good, since it will be siginificantly quicker and cheaper than taking the courses at my school. Thanks!
  9. We have those here, too. We just don't get the universal healthcare or decent infrastructure out of it. But we do have the NSA and all the guns and tanks we can eat. So there's that. Canada may not be the socialist utopia that some people make it out to be (especially now with the craziness and Americanization going on politically), but in a lot of way it has it's head screwed on a little tighter than we do, at least in my opinion. And that's not to say that America is terrible. We aren't. Some things about us are great, depending on the part of the country. For instance, San Francisco is a beautiful and vivacious city with wonderful culture, food, and interesting people. Florida, on the other hand, might be the worst place in the world (I kid. (But seriously, though.))
  10. The afterparties used to be more of an all the time thing. Linus' kid getting old enough to be taken care of by the dad in a more meaningful way, the show time changing, and also not working out of his garage kind of changed that. However, we still get 20-30 minutes or so of awesome, informal afterparty every few shows, so that's cool. The other things to mention are that the WAN shows themselves are available as podcasts at https://soundcloud.com/TheWANShow, but it hasn't been updated since the end of April, so I don't know if they're going to continue to do that. There was also talk a while back about doing shorter, more informal shows during the week, but I think that idea has been nixed because of the time it would take away from other projects that are more important to the company as they're already all working all day every day to make things happen. The last thing is that Slick usually streams games on Twitch (http://www.twitch.tv/luke_lafr) as an unofficial afterparty. Linus usually isn't there (though he often shows up in twitch chat and calls Luke a butt), but he is sometimes (he might be tonight), and there a group of mods that are in teamspeak with Luke that have some pretty decent banter. Edit: I guess Luke isn't streaming until ~12-1AM PDT if at all tonight because life. So probably no Linus.
  11. By the price, no. But as a consumer, yes. Maybe that's the best they can build and still maintain the price point, but that doesn't make it a good product. People buying this TV are generally taking it home knowing it's not going to be the best TV in the world, but they're happy because it's the next big thing at a low price. Then they hook it up, load up a blu-ray, and they hate it. Maybe they try to tweak the color and the sharpness to try in vain to polish the turd they bought, but eventually they end up returning it. And do you know what most of them do from there? They spend more money than they spent on the Seiki on a 1080P TV, because people are willing to pay to make sure they're getting something decent, or at least something that isn't as bad as the Seiki. It's not a product that should have been brought to market.
  12. Hi! To answer your first question, you will see the biggest improvement (in gaming) by upgrading your graphics card. That's your biggest performance bottleneck at this point. As for your second question, if they are both the same price, get the Samsung because just is larger. If the Samsung is much more expensive, the intel might be a better choice. Their performance is pretty much the same. Personally, I would get a 250GB Samsung and save the extra money.
  13. It actually scales surprisingly well, at least in the games tested. Maybe those results are misleading, though. Most of the games are pretty old at this point, and probably support multi-way GPU configs particularly well. Anyway, I don't think anyone invests that much in a gaming setup purely because it's functional. It's at least partially to be the badass with tri-fired cards.
  14. Most of them come with a one year warranty from the seller, but it's ebay so I'll give you that. Some people get dead pixels, yeah. And some people get backlight bleed. It's usually not bad, though, and most people get monitors with no real defects. People that do get really messed up ones usually end up with a replacement. Lots of monitors have cheap stands, my Shimian's isn't even the worst I've seen, even on $200+ monitors. I mounted mine to a monitor arm and that problem went away. The bezels are large, sure. You can get them with multiple inputs, as well as audio pass through. Do people actually use the USB ports on monitors? I've actually never seen anyone do it. But all that aside, you have to put it in the perspective that you're essentially getting the visual experience of a $500 monitor for $300. Your savings is literally 2/3 the cost of the monitor. After taxes on the name brand, you could almost buy 2 of the Korean monitors for the same price.
  15. Right on. Here is the part list with any changes: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/yjCBhM I assumed you were going for a black/red theme because of the motherboard. But if not, the color of the case or RAM can be changed obviously. CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($239.99 @ Newegg) -Good selection. If you aren't going to overclock, you can save some money and go with the non-k part. CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($89.99 @ Best Buy) - As others have said, there are better liquid coolers. They're also $50 more and harder to install. This one is good. Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($142.99 @ Newegg) - Good bang for your buck. Good overclocking potential. Memory: Kingston Fury Red Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($74.99 @ Amazon) - I only changed this because it was cheaper than the corsair RAM you chose, plus it's faster. Red because of the theme. Kingston is a good brand Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($129.99 @ Amazon) - Solid choice. Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (52.92 @ Amazon) - It's a cheap, good 1TB hard drive. I have one. Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 290 4GB Black Edition Double Dissipation Video Card ($389.99 @ Newegg) - Good price, looks good. XFX is a good company, and if you register the card within 30 days, it has a lifetime warranty. Case: NZXT H440 (Red/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($109.99 @ Newegg) - Again, solid choice. You've probably seen Linus' video on it. Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($114.99 @ NCIX) - Beefed up version of the one you chose. Rock solid, and EVGA sells braided cable kits for it since you said you wanted that. OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit (OEM) ($94.98 @ OutletPC) - Windows 7 is very slightly cheaper. If you like 8, that's up to you. Base Total (pre-tax): $1472.82 Combo Discounts: -$25.00 Mail-in Rebates: -$30.00 If you have any questions, feel free to ask! Edit: Realized I forgot the mechanical drive.
