SirDigbyCC's Achievements

  1. Had everything pictured here except the monitor, sold it with about 100 games on disk and another 200 or so on tape for £20 when I was about 8 or so when I was given a Win95 Pentium system, absolutely kicking myself now.
  2. Ok you say you disconnected one of the monitors, did you try booting the PC up with only one monitor connected?
  3. Ya just uninstall normally, not that there's anything wrong with DDU but I'm pretty sure you can remove any custom settings in the nVidia installer anyway
  4. Weren't Ubi supposed to be releasing a performance patch at some point? I pre-ordered this but uninstalled it within a couple of days because it ran like a dog (ha!), just wondering if things have improved since then.
  5. Hmm odd, honestly I am thinking PSU, there are very few things that will cause a PC to completely power off. If you know anyone you can borrow a PSU from then do that and test it, the only other thing I can think of at the moment is checking the GPU power connectors, if they are 8 pin then make sure that it is definitely PCI-E 8-pin connected to it and not auxiliary motherboard 8-pin power, I have managed to hook up an 8-pin PCI-E to a motherboard before (was a cheap PSU mind with no labelling), it didn't like that
  6. Yeah... If this is genuinely a network performance issue then maybe you can talk him into setting up QOS or purchasing a router with that functionality. Otherwise bill payer sets the rules in my book, even if you download the router settings file (which is normally just a plaintext XML), there's nothing stopping him from changing the administrator password, even if you bypass that with a factory reset I think he might notice the lack of internet when his new wi-fi password suddenly doesn't work.
  7. If you're running >1 monitor then it could be a refresh rate conflict, if I use extended display (TV @ 50hz, monitor @ 60hz) it causes pretty noticeable tearing. So if this is the case then disable a monitor and see if the problem persists. Edit: Just seen your post, scratch that, yeah only thing I can think of atm is fully re-installing graphics drivers ensuring all settings are defaulted.
  8. I use a QPAD MK-85 at home (MX red) and a QPAD MK-50 (MX blue) at work, exactly the same keyboard apart from the switch type, and I think they're both in the right place, when I'm typing, I prefer the MX blues by a long shot, but the reds are slightly nicer for gaming. So I'd say it depends on what you're using it for: If you're mostly typing: Blues If you're mostly gaming: Reds 50/50: Blues, they're just that much nicer typing on that I'd put up with their slightly... (and this is subjective) sub par gaming performance Some manufacturers will send out switch samples for a fairly low price if you want to try before you buy.
  9. It's always possible, just make sure you have the newest drivers installed anyway, can't hurt. You can update the BIOS as well if you like but I can't see that being the problem, I'm assuming you've very recently built this, so you've purchased the parts recently, if so the BIOS will likely be up to date out of the box. Anyway did you check that everything is connected properly and that the temps in BIOS are OK?
  10. Yep, never use the volume buttons as I use the receiver for that, but prev./next buttons come in handy when changing tracks whilst gaming.
  11. Build it yourself, it's not always cheaper but it's far more rewarding.
  12. Sounds like a motherboard driver, I doubt you'd need to update the BIOS but search ASUS' site for your motherboard model and it should take you to the latest BIOS update with instructions. On that note make sure you have up to date motherboard drivers installed. * The LED indicator for the GPU is more of a POST test LED and is not indicative of GPU faults / driver issues, so I wouldn't rule it out. * Could still the the PSU, but best to rule out anything else before looking at that. * Again a storage device failure would not cause the whole system to power off, if that were the case you'd more likely see lockups, delayed write fail errors etc.
  13. What is this saving you speak of? But seriously I'm waiting on big Maxwell as an excuse to upgrade my GTX 690, still not a lot holding that back (apart from one or 2 Skyrim mods )
  14. Hmm.. could you give a bit more info on the BSODs.
  15. If you feel you need a boost in single core performance for a few months then go ahead, but you won't get a noticeable improvement in FPS in most games. Until recently I had an overclocked FX-8320 build as a "steam machine", and the only thing it struggled with was PCSX2 / Dolphin.
