  1. the odd thing is, that the prices of the 8700k still rose after the release of the 9700k. Prices (over here) of the 8700k and the 9700k are almost the same (+/- 10€). I would have thought that with the release of a new generation the old ones get a bit cheaper
  2. Since I'm still using a fairly old pc (3770 non k) for daily work and gaming and my pc is starting to show its age a bit, rather sooner than later I'll have to upgrade. What worries me though are the CPU prices and if they continue to rise or not. As an example: Roughly a year ago a 8700k costs around 300€. Today it's somewhere around 400 to 430€. At those prices I would have to settle with a Core i5 instead of an i7. But since I'm using my pc for my daily work, hyperthreading would be a welcome addition. My question is: Will the cpu prices continue to rise or will they stagnate or even fall a bit in the next couple of months?
  3. Still using a 3770 non k ? It's time to upgrade soon though...
  4. I'm quite happy with the maxnomic chair I bought two years ago. I'm 6ft and also slim. I also had back problems, but honestly the only way to solve them - especially if your sitting most of your day - is a bit of back exercises and frequent breaks from sitting. An ergonomic chair wont fix your back problems. The maxnomic chair is fairly adjustable, and pretty comfortable.Took me a while getting used to, since my prior chair was very soft. But what stood out to me was the exceptional support from maxnomic. I had a few issues a couple of months after I bought the chair. After a few recommendations from the support didnt solve the issue, they send me a replacement for the complete mechanics (base, casters, tilt-mechanism) - no questions asked. All the conversations with the support was very friendly and I got the impression they really cared. They even contacted me a couple of weeks later and asked if everything was working as it should.
  5. I can highly recommend Corsairs Void Wireless headphones. Mainly because they are very well built. I have the first generation since a couple of years now, and they still work like a charm. I'm working from home and I use them daily for at least 5 to 8 ours. Compared to the (way more expensive) Razer Man O War, which my wife uses, the built quality is way better, the sound not much different. The sound is good (I'm a musician/producer, if that helps) - they are a bit heavy on the bass and high end - just like all the gaming headphones. But you can easily adjust that with the EQ and save it as a preset. You can get them fairly cheap - especially with all christmas deals coming up. So if you want a sturdy gaming headset that sounds good and does the job - take a look at those.
  6. I'm having a lot of issues finding the right mouse. I've been through several mice (including a G502, roccat tyon, and tried various razer mice) and simply can't find the right mouse. For me, the issue is not so much the length but the width of the mouse: I have large-ish hands (20cm by 10cm) and the biggest issue I have with "regular" mice is the fact that my hand starts hurting because of my pinky getting squished under my ringfinger resulting in a very unnatural position for my whole hand (hope this makes sense - just hold a narrow object in your hands with all your fingers and watch what happens to your pinky.) The Func MS-3 was the perfect solution for me. But sadly func is no more and my last MS3 just died. (bought a couple after func announcing them being sold) I've tried the Moinix Naos 7000 a while back, but I've returned that after getting two replacements. Not sold on the quality of those. So last week, I bought a Decus Respec from Speedlink (luckily heavily discounted bc of blackfriday). The mouse is okay, since it has rests for the ringfinger and pinky, but still is a bit too small. It's really frustrating. I really need to find a fitting mouse, since a) it's hurts really bad after a couple of hours and b) I work the whole day on my PC and can not afford having to stop multiple times a workday and take brakes because my hand hurts. (I've tried handshake mice as well. Didnt work for me sadly)
  7. It's definitely unresponsive. Very unresponsive. Also there's a very noticeable difference when I set both displays to 60hz. So it's unfortunately not the realization that 60hz is shitty compared to 144hz. I don't have a iGPU, but I couldnt use it anyway, because I use the 1440p for work where I need the cuda cores of the nvidia GPU. (mainly Adobe stuff, quite a difference to non-cuda)
  8. yeah pretty much everything is very unresponsive. So here's my theory after researching a bit: Maybe the GPU cannot output two different refresh rates so that the 60hz monitor also gets 144hz. Why everything would get laggy and unresponsive - I don't know. Just a theory, don't know if it's true.
  9. I recently switched from 3 old displays to a dual-setup with a Benq XL2720Z (1080p, 144hz) and a Benq BL2710 (1440p, 60hz). The 1080p one connects via DVI-D and the 1440p (after getting a "no signal" with Displayport ) via HDMI. Now I encountered something really weird: When the 1080p is set to run at 144hz, the 1440p one feels reeeeally laggy. Scrolling and marking text for example has really noticeable delay, making the monitor feel very unresponsive. Setting the 1080p one (!) to 60hz gets rid of the issue. Oo (issue persists with 120hz) What's going on? How can the refresh rate of one display has an effect on the responsiveness of the other one? Any Ideas how I can address the problem? My rig: Display 1: Benq XL2720Z Display 2: Benq BL2710 VGA: Asus GTX 970 CPU: i7 3770 RAM: 16GB
  10. Just a heads up: I could increase my budget quite a bit, so I've opted for two 27" monitors: BenQ BL2710 (ISP, 1440p) for work and a BenQ XL2720Z (TN, 1080p) for gaming. Very satisfied up until this point, except for one issue: Display Port in the BL2710 wont work properly. I get the "no signal"-problem very often, no issues with HDMI though.
  11. Thanks. That's the solution I lean towards to. Don't need to be a perfect gaming monitor, since the main focus is on work. I'm not quite certain but I think I'd rather have a "slow" 5ms IPS panel than a fast TN. And since I'm running a GTX970 I guess I'll barley exceed 60fps so higher than 60hz won't be necessary too?
  12. ----------------------------- Hey there, since my current monitors are getting old (~7-12 years) and the image loses more and more quality I think its time to get a new display. But I find my self in trouble deciding on what to get. First the situation: The monitor will be used for work and gaming. I'm self employed so the monitor will be used quite a lot. My rig contains a i7 3770 and a GTX 970. I'm currently running 3 Monitors: (left to right) 17inch 4:3 - 24inch 16:9 (main) - 22inch 16:10. I'm definitely gonna reuse some of the old ones because it's vital for work, but how many and which one depends on what the new monitor is going to be. The dilemma: since I'm using a lot of space when working, I thought a ultrawide-34inch display would be nice. They are usually IPS, which is perfect for work and they offer a lot of space. Buuuut the 1440p one are quite expensive. Maybe a bit too expensive... There's the option to go for the 1080p ones, which may be awesome for gaming, but I suspect not so great for working...? So I thought maybe a 27inch 1440p would be a better option? If there would be an affordable IPS display, I think that would be good for work.. But what about gaming? I like my games running around at least 40 - 60fps with decent image quality. Since the 970 surely won't achieve those framerates @1440p in every game, I wonder how bad interpolation is these days? Or maybe going for a very good 24inch 1080p again? I certainly would be a bit cheaper and no change to my gaming habits, but I really would like some more space when working. I just don't know what to pick. I tend to lean towards the 27inch 1440p option, granting gaming in 1080p and/or interpolation isn't a big issue. I'd really appreciate advice so what are your thoughts and recommendations?
  13. Awesome thread. I hope it gets further updated. Here's my suggestion: Code Editor: Brackets. (opensource/MIT license) http://brackets.io/ It's a really great editor, can be extended with plugins/extensions.
  14. preamble: I just created this account, only to reply to this topic - and I'm no native english speaker - so please excuse any grammar and/or spelling errors So I've read about this on twitter and I thought: Lets look at this the other way round: "What would I do if I were Linus?" I wouldn't take AT&T as a sponsor If I wouldn't see myself mostly agree with the companies products/services and ethics. To be honest I would feel a little bit like a dick, going like: "hey I don't like your company, neither your products but I'll take your money." I don't know - this seems dishonest to me and I have high expectations to myself - so of I were Linus I wouldn't do this. The other thing is: While the LTT community knows Linus and his employees and most likely know how they think about a company like AT&T, even If they got sponsored by them, what about people who aren't part of the community? Lets say people who stumbled upon a "sponsored by AT&T" video on YT? Wouldn't it be a bit misleading to them? Even worse: Isn't there a risk of losing potential new viewers? If I would watch a show from a guy for the first time and I quite like what I'm seeing, and then realize he's sponsored by a company I absolutely dislike, that instantly would raise some distrust/concerns.
