I have an A14 3000rpm for this exact reason, it works pretty well. I have it scaling according to temperature, It usually stays around 600rpm, but ramps up when gaming.

@berre95 I have an Aquaero 5LT (http://www.frozencpu.com/products/13696/bus-271/Aquacomputer_Aquaero_5_LT_USB_Fan_Controller_Liquid_System_Controller_53095.html) controlling 10 fans and I love it. Infinitely better than ASUS Fan Xpert. The software is great, only the essentials, allows for huge amounts of control. The Aquaero has 16 point fan control rather than 3 on Fan Xpert. I've been looking for a way to properly control my fans and the Aquaero was exactly what I was looking for. I've had so many issues with Fan Xpert. So many issues with it locking up when another application was using 100% of the CPU. Alt-Tabing from games would see my fans suddenly jumping to their correct speed, previously only sitting at idle speeds. I'm done with software based fan control from now on. The grid+ is good. Only 3 pin headers. Only 3 point control. All Fans run at the same speed. You'll need to use the NZXT Cam Software. Manual fan controllers make no sense to me.

could use it for something...

I know what you mean. It's a terrible metric to base fan speeds off. I have another topic where I voice the same concern: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/254556-fan-controller-suggestions-loop-temperature-controlled/ CPU temps are far too erratic. I personally base my temps on the water temp with the controller I listed before. My fans now have an extremely slow and linear acceleration curve. Ramping up from 20% fan speed to 100% (Pwm controlled) between 25 to 45 degrees. Obviously my case is far from average, I have no idea what the normal thing to do is.

I had the exact same problem (although I'm water cooling). I picked up this: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/13696/bus-271/Aquacomputer_Aquaero_5_LT_USB_Fan_Controller_Liquid_System_Controller_53095.html and couldn't be happier. I also have an Asus z97 board. I was really disappointed with Fan Xpert, lacking options and just plain getting locked out when other heavy processes are running.

Getting into FPV multi rotor flying. I'll have a lot of gopro footage from that I'll need to edit and encode!

No the extra price isn't justified, stick with the Pro version.

Perfect analogy. Just like Ferrari, Caselabs is a "spared no expense" type of product. If it can be done better, they do it better. No cost cutting involved... Rather then a mass production make of car, where things are done so they can be best mass produced. Not because it results in a better product for the consumer.

Enthoo Pro comes to mind. $119 at PCCG. No blue lights though. You could go for the Luxe, which has the lighting, but its $179.

Cooler temps will increase the life of the components. Far more important than fan life.

How to fill watercooling loop with water?
Fragsa1 replied to eBiz's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
Plug the 24pin cable into the PSU (don't plug it into the motherboard) Diconnect cables to GPUs and the 8pin EPS Jump the PSU (solder wire is fine) Fill your res Turn the PSU on Turn the PSU off once most of the water from the res has drained. Repeat 4 to 6. You don't just want to turn the system on as you would be running components without any water in them, they would overheat. Also leaks will be less of an issue if the components aren't powered on.- 1 reply

Noctua NH-D14/D15 actually worth it? New Cooling (Eventually)
Fragsa1 replied to TehCaucasianAsian's topic in Cooling
Server grade fans don't give any assurances to silence. Delta fans get up to +60dBa, that's insanity for a desktop computer.- 15 replies

Could just use the 5LT. Just split the fans off the one 4pin header which the controller has. Much cheaper... http://www.frozencpu.com/products/13696/bus-271/Aquacomputer_Aquaero_5_LT_USB_Fan_Controller_Liquid_System_Controller_53095.html
