  1. Ah, Alright, you've convinced me. I'll swap it out for a 1000w guy. Thanks to all who recomended this. Really? Is that because other parts are using the PCIe-lanes? Because 8+8+8=24 so I though I would have 4 lanes extra even after installing three cards. The three 970 should outperform two 980s for the same price, but if the last card only runs at 4x I might have to change things up... (Although blender rendering isn't greatly affected by the speed of the PCIe buss, other applications might suffer.) Ah, your right! I had forgotten that I could run 4x4GB sticks and still have room to add another set if I ever needed more. Gotta love X99. (Updated parts list.) Still not sure about Reference vs after market cooling on them GPUs. Some people say as long as you have great airflow it doesn't matter, others disagree completely. Oh statistics, how I wish you were here. I'm also not sure I want to lose the benefits of Asus's custom PCB. This may be another reason to go SLI 980s....
  2. I'm trying to build "positive pressure" air flow inside the case. Is it as simple as three on the top, two in the front and one on the bottom all pulling air in and on in the back pushing it all out? Diagram: \/ \/ \/ \/ _____________ | === === === | = or === is a fan. < | = ++++++ =| < > or < is the flow of air. | +++++++ =| < |_______===___| /\ Thanks!
  3. Err...Why did you re-quote the same thing I said? Did I miss your reply?
  4. I wasn't thinking of doing the GPUs just yet. Only the CPU. Yes the Corsair fans will have a white glow (small light) AKA Dwarf white light, so I came up with White dwarf. http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Series-AF120-Edition-Airflow/dp/B00F6S13DE# I did a PSU calculation using the link below and it was recommending 953w for the OC 5820K and three 770s (They didn't list 970s) and the 1000w EVGA with a 10 year warranty was only a few dollars cheaper (At time of writing) http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp Scaling is not a problem with Blender. It uses each GPU as a "core" and gets very good cross performance. For games it's not optimal though, your right. Two 980s would actually cost more than three 970s as well. (Only something like $50 more though, so not to bad.) Humm, that's not a bad idea. I hadn't though of that. I'll look into that, thanks! Would it still OC as well? Thebman712, on 28 Sept 2014 - 7:39 PM, said: That looks like that one only comes in a 1TB format, it has a bigger cash, but I'm not really worried about speed on the HDD. Have I messed anything important? I also want to say that was some fast feedback, Thanks Guys!
  5. Update: Due to changing circumstance this project is on hold. (Most likely indefinitely) Oh well. This is a build I have planed for sometime this October-December. This will be my second build ever so any advice would be greatly appreciated. A few notes: I do a far bit of editing, VFX and some Blender work and light gaming. Yes I do need 16gb of RAM (our current machine hits 14 easy when editing. Yes, your right, If I wanted to game a 3-way SLI 970 would have scaling problems, but that doesn't happen with blender so were good there. Some of the SP fans are going to be AF fans but I couldn't find them in the PC-parts-packer list. Custom Liquid cooling for under $150? (The esthetics don't matter because I'm going with the window-less version of the Enthoo Pro.) Edit: The "White" in the White dwarf will come form the Corsair fans I plan on installing. And so without further ado, the parts list. Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service. My name is ****** and it is my pleasure to help you with your problem. In my opinion, if you install three or more chassis fans in your computer, it would be able to help to cooler the whole system with three video cards in SLI. So Looks like were good for 3-way 970s
  6. What did you find wrong with the right side?
  7. I must say, this is very telling. DDR4 still has a ways to go, as of right now I don't think it's worth the price. It just get's worked into the premium that you pay for the X99 chip set right now. Thanks for the benchmarks Linus!
  8. Cool, looks like I'll go with that Logitech then. Thanks!
  9. Hey guys, I'm looking a new PC build (I'll have that up for review at some point.) and I wanted to get your opinion on what mice would be best. I don't want to spend more than $60US Right now I'm looking at that Corsair Raptor M45 or Logitech G402*. The Logitech has some nice add-ins but I don't know if I need to spend the extra money. From what I understand, Linus uses the Corsair M45**. The only mouse I ever can remember using was the Logitech M705. It will be use for Blender, Editing, and casual FPS Gaming on a 1080p or 1440p monitor. What are your thoughs? Fell free to suggest other mice as long as there under $60. Thanks! * Revew of the G405 **Linus mice refrence http://youtu.be/Cq-zqQiY-OA?t=20m9s
  10. PC part packer link: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZTNBFT Here is one that comes in under the $7000 even wth 3 4K monitors (It was a bit of a squeez.). The 12GB of ram from the Titan Z should be able to drive three 4K monitors, but you my want to just save up a little more and SLI a second Titan Z to make sure you can keep your 65FPS. There should be enough watts left in the PSU for that. Alternatively Nvidia new Maxwell architecture my have a more powerful GPU than the Z by Next Sep if you can wait that long... I don't know about the Full tower case as I haven't researched it, but all your other parts should be compatible. RAID-0 the SSDs to get the best speed and use the 2Tb for storage. Heave fun man! And post a pic if you ever put this together.... 11. How I found Linus Tech Tips: (By googleing about some product (I think it was a GTX 560ti) And finding your un-boxing...I've been watching ever since. My favorite series or style of video: I honestly like your builder series, Ultimate 4k build guide and all that. Also really enjoyed your ad campaigns (Color master detective and dash cam tech video.) What product you would like to see us review in the future: The new Kingston predator DDR4 is really interesting and I’d like to know how the higher CL times on the DDR4 and similar frequencies with DDR3 affect preference. Post about your favorite food: sure...ok ;P I love me some good BBQ, dinner roles and home cooked macaroni (Family recipe). Really great work gusy and gratz on the 1M mark!
  12. I posted this in the youbute comments, but I am really intrested in this so I though I would comment here as well. What I would like to see; as requested: I would love to see some videos on the productivity improvements on the x99 set and a look into the difference Between DDR4 and DDR3 with a special look at how the MUCH higher CL times compared to normal DDR3 affect preference and the benefits of quad Chandal memory
  13. Oh..that is a good deal. Any idea when the deal will end? (Hopefuly not to soon....)
  14. Dude! Tha'ts awesome! Also like the post #2, But it's not optimal for cross displays.
  15. I'm ok with a lot of game styles, what I hate is when you play a game that's great fun and then the ending is so bad that you never want to see the thing again. I honesty think "The last of us" was one of those. Spoiler: Great game...but..oh whats that...yea shoot the guys who are try to save the world and go hide in a hole until you die, but don't forget to reflect on all the death and suffering that happened along the way... <Cut to credits> Anyway, y'all can bet me up for not understianding the ending or something, but what's the point in playing if the only outcome is to lose...
  16. Nice! the Quad-Sli is sweet! Any diea when it will be avalibal on newegg or Amazon?
