  1. Nice build i have to agree here with getting a evga. Other then that everything looks good.
  2. I thought as much. I got the whole 'are you getting a guy to build this?" I may be a girl but i'm not incompetent.
  3. This one However I'm not sure how well it would go with editing. If its only light editing it should do fine. However adding in a Operating system adds a lot more if you're in america i think you can get it cheaply someone else may be able to answer that.
  4. I just got the parts for my computer and the lady in the store tried freaking me out about inserting the cpu and telling me to get them to build it for 80 dollars. I've never built one before but i'm sure its not hard, i'll know tonight after work haha I'd say your friend can do it and probably learn more from doing it. The above video that Davsmith4 posted is perfect for him too Plenty of videos on youtube from linustechtips and others on how to put in everything.
  5. Plenty of window'd cases in that price area Window'd version of the above design http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/bitfenix-case-shinobiwindow
  6. Yeah in graphics and editing you live on your computer. What i can suggest with my above build to get it under 600 is just take the case off (because you have one) but also drop the cpu to the i5 4690 which just means you can't overclock it. The only way to make it less is to drop the graphics card down. Also not sure on the brand of graphics card but they were the cheapest. If you could get your parents to say yes to 50 dollars more you'd get a lot more out of the computer with my above build but i understand that computers are not the cheapest so this would be your best go i'd say.You can always upgrade.
  7. Youtube, here and just general reviews. I use a computer everyday and decided its about time i stop buying shitty store bought ones and start building my own and learning what actually makes my computer work. I spend 9 hours at work coding on one and then hours after gaming at home. I just generally like knowledge and learning.
  8. I have a similar build and went with the z97 a i was tempted to go with other boards that were more expensive but it really wasn't needed, good choices by you i agree with skullbringer to get a seagate 2tb though
  9. Thanks for the clarification I don't know the comparison between companies.
  10. 770 if you can afford it go with the 780. I personally have never used Nvidia but they do seem to be stronger cards the 770 rates the same as the r9 290. I think the 780 is in par with the r9 295x or something
  11. Yeah graphics cards are easierly swapped out so he can swap it to the nvidia. SSHD are still a lot faster the hds but if he can afford an ssd then go he can go for that I will upgrade to an ssd in the future haha
  12. I live in Australia too and I've just ordered a gaming / 3d rendering / video editing pc This is what I personally went with, with the help of this forum. I will be upgrading the ram to 16gb or more in the future just ran out of budget and ram is the easiest to upgrade. I went with an sshd as i couldn't really afford a ssd and i've been booting on a hd so an sshd will still make a huge difference. Case is obviously up to you. But this might help you out a little bit. I live in QLD so i went with umart as they were cheapest and i can pick up. What i've got below doesn't include mouse, monitor, keyboard etc but there is nearly 400 dollars left over for that. 13. So i'm finalising my build that i'll be buying tomorrow. I'm a web designer that works in dreamweaver, illustrator and photoshop. I am also a 3d modeller and I render usually single frames, its very rare i'd do an animation. I will be doing video editing as well, but not overly intense video editing. Do you think i'd benefit from an i7? I will be gaming on this pc as well. My current build plan is this, I am already pushing my budget but i could wait on getting the new screen which would be the money for the i7 or if anyone else has an idea for this price range. This is a lot of money for me so i want to get it right the first time. I currently work in a studio but early next year I will be running my own business as a web designer. I'm getting the windowed version of the case listed. pcpartpicker only had the non window'd [PCPartPicker part list](http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/FqkKsY) / [Price breakdown by merchant](http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/FqkKsY/by_merchant/) Type|Item|Price CPU | [intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor](http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i54690k) | $267.00 @ PCCaseGear CPU Cooler | [Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler](http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rr212e20pkr2) | $39.00 @ Mwave Australia Motherboard | [Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard](http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z97a) | $195.00 @ CPL Online Memory | [G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory](http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f312800cl10d16gbxl) | $188.00 @ CPL Online Storage | [seagate 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive](http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/seagate-internal-hard-drive-st2000dx001) | $139.00 @ CPL Online Video Card | [Asus Radeon R9 290 4GB DirectCU II Video Card](http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-r9290dc2oc4gd5) | $499.00 @ Mwave Australia Case | [Cooler Master 690 III ATX Mid Tower Case](http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-case-cms693kwn1) | $109.00 @ CPL Online Power Supply | [EVGA 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply](http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-110b20750vr) | $104.00 @ CPL Online Optical Drive | [samsung SH-224DB/RSBS DVD/CD Writer](http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/samsung-optical-drive-sh224dbrsbs) | $20.00 @ Mwave Australia Operating System | [Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)](http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/microsoft-os-wn700615) | $115.00 @ CPL Online Monitor | [benQ GW2255 60Hz 21.5" Monitor](http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/benq-monitor-gw2255) | $129.00 @ CPL Online Total Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available | $1804.00 Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-08-23 16:08 EST+1000 |
  14. Final Build So this is the final build i've come up with i've also added in a new monitor as i needed to upgrade to a 1080p anyway. The case i'm getting is the window'd version of this. I think i'm pretty happy with this build and am excited to start it. My current system is terrible, my gpu runs at 85 on idle and goes over a 100 if i attempt to play any games, even on low. I'll be purchasing this system tomorrow so if anyone has any feedback that'd be great. 15. What is your max budget, i did notice in your build you forgot a case, do you already have a case? Going to try and throw something together. I majored in graphic design, web design and 3d design (animation and video editing) - edit here is what I came up with though i'm pushing the price with the 270x, you have the ability to overclock in the future (get a cpu cooler when you do) Also i'd suggest expanding the ram when you can. I'd suggest getting bigger storage with design work too. Case is completely up to you i just picked a cheaper one. Also do you need an operating system because thats going to push the price up too?
