  1. That's what I told her, but in layman's terms. LOL. It's this laptop: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GWX25CV/ref=cm_sw_r_fm_apa_i_Js3JDbMJNNAEB Fresh out of the box, no audio peripherals. I'm not familiar with that model, and she's in a different state, so I can't look at it first hand.
  2. "Why does my computer ALWAYS turn on with the volume at an unreasonable 68? I want it closer to either of those digits as single digits. It is loud and scary every time and then I have to adjust my volume. I would think it would remember. I don't think I've met a computer who forgot. It just updated last night. And it was still stupid loud this morning." This is the message I received from a friend of mine, and I can't seem to find an answer online. Anybody know? It's a brand new Asus ROG Hero laptop.

  4. Ben Gurion University in Israel have shown that it’s possible to rig up two-way communication with an air-gapped computer via heat exchange. http://www.extremetech.com/computing/201870-bitwhisper-stealing-data-from-non-networked-computers-using-heat Now you can show your wife why you need to switch to phase change.
  5. Really glad to finally see a hardline build from LTT! And that server is truly badass... Username: vwagenjetta https://www.vessel.com/videos/LCoY5zfFf https://www.vessel.com/videos/JYZEYDYx0

  7. Thanks, Luke. BIOS usability is a huge deal for me, and I really appreciate seeing somebody do a reasonably thorough (and visual) review of BIOS utilities. I'm no expert when it comes to overclocking, and a well labeled, easy to use BIOS is really helpful. I like ASUS's X99 overclocking utility idea (haven't had a chance to use it yet, though).

  9. Thanks Dragoon, that's exactly the information I was looking for. It made sense that the M.2 would use separate lanes, but I couldn't find anything that stated that as a fact.
  10. I haven't been able to find this information online anywhere, so I'll throw it up here and see if anyone knows. Below is a screenshot of Intel's spec sheet on an i7 4770K. As you can see, it says the processor offers 16 PCI Express lanes, and lists compatible PCI-E setups. Now, if I were to use this processor, and throw in, say, a GTX 970 (which uses 16 PCI-E 3.0 lanes) and an M.2 SSD, would the GPU drop to 8 lanes to accommodate for the M.2 drive's lane usage?
  11. I would love to see more motherboard videos from you guys. Specifically, more videos that talk in depth about all the features in a given boards BIOS (or UEFI). I don't know anything at all about overclocking, and I'd love to learn, but finding that kind of information online has proven very difficult. YouTube videos are often vague, or assume the viewer knows at least a little about what needs to be done and why when overclocking, and finding the kind of specific information I'm looking for in a sea of posts inside a sea of forums is like looking for a needle in a haystack the size of the universe. There are so many things I can change in a BIOS (and I'm told to change nothing in some forum posts, and to change everything in others, each with understandable reasoning laid out), and I just want to know what these changes are doing, and why I need to change (or not change) them. User manuals have been too vague for me, and the "item description" in the BIOS usually looks like it's been poorly translated from one eastern language or another, so some good information on all the features within a BIOS, whether in the form of a forum post or YouTube video (or channel?) would bring some much needed relief, at least to me.
  12. I have a Linksys EA6200 (aka AC900) wireless router. I'm paying for 50Mbps cable internet, but only getting ~20. I ran the network cable from the modem to the computer, bypassing the router, and got, according to speedtest, ~57Mbps (down). I've searched the internet over, and it seems lots of people have the same issue, but nobody's clear on how to fix it. Anyone here having that problem, or know how to fix it? Speedtest Results: Modem > Computer : 56.95 Download, 6.21 Upload Modem > Router > Wireless : 19.75 Down, 6.15 Up Modem > Router > Wired : 19.63 Down, 6.16 Up
  13. I have a Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 (Rev 2.1) and SATA Ports 0 1 2 and 3 (OnChip SATA Type) are RAID type in BIOS (one single drive, two drives in RAID 0, one empty SATA port), and my only options for SATA Ports 4 and 5 are IDE and "as SATA type." If I do IDE, ports 4/5 are SATA II and I'm running a SATA III SSD, so I'm losing 100 MB/s. If I do "as SATA type" (which is RAID) the system crashes. If I put the SSD into the empty OnChip SATA port, the system crashes. How do I get SATA port 4 (SSD) into AHCI mode to make it SATA III? The picture isn't mine, but shows the BIOS screen I'm talking about.
