  1. Yeah thats running the "Intel Processor Diagnostic" load test. It normally doesn't run that hot, 45 ish on the cores in Windows. I haven't, no. I just noticed it was abnormal actually, I've always just paid attention to the AI Suite temperatures which all looked fairly normal. I didn't install it, the system is a shop build, but yeah the HSF is on and spinning fine. I felt to make sure it was clipped in ok and it was. I think thats a bit past my level of expertise here unfortunately.
  2. Got a Hyper T4 in the mail. Are those kind of temps normal for a well ventilated stock HSF? Seems kind of excessive that its been running at 90 degrees for 3 years.
  3. I've always just checked in the BIOS or on the Asus Suite software that comes with my system, which reports something in the low 40 degree celsius range on idle moving up to 60-70 loan on the stock Intel HSF. But after getting HW Monitor and poking around a bit, I noticed the actual Core temperatures on my board are significantly higher than the temperature the ASUS software or BIOS displays. Often after a gaming session hitting into the 90's with under a quick stress testing getting over 100 celsius. The HSF feels to be well installed but I don't want to remove it as I don't have any spare thermal paste. Is this 40 degree temperature gap between the 'CPUTIN' and the core temperatures normal? Is one of them likely to be misreporting? The CPU is clocked at stock speeds.
  4. As far as I understand, there is a 720P model which will be under $199. The 1080P/2gb model will be $199 then the 4gb model will be over $199.
  5. What do you guys think? Linus made a video from CES. Looks unbelievably good for $200. I've long wondered when smart phones will get that aggressive shove in price, but it looks like it has finally happened here. The one thing I find strange is that Asus' model designations are practically impossible to differentiate. So is this 'lower' than the Zenfone 5 despite having superior specs? Regardless, looks like a solid product.
  6. Thats just a cheap coolermaster one off ebay. You can pay a lot more for magnettic ones, but I wanted something I could hack with scissors.
  7. Cheers guys. I'll clean it out every now and again to keep the fan dust free. Been a bit disappointed with the Corsair branded fan tbh. I've got Noctua exhausts and they're both significantly quieter. the Db numbers are similar but the sound difference in person is huge. Anyone who I've mentioned it to mocked me for spending $60 on two exhaust fans, especially in a $50 case, but they really are on a different level.
  8. I don't really see the point of having two computers right next to one another. If the second one is a Mini ATX system wouldn't buying a cheap $50 case and doing it separately be a better idea?
  9. I added a front 120mm fan and a dust filter to my system. I was wondering the effects on airflow this tends to have? Because by the time you have the mounting bracket and holes for the fan, with the addition of the dust filter it doesn't look like there is significant air for the fan to pull from. http://i.imgur.com/9YJzdxRl.jpg < Dust filter mounted. There wasn't space between the hard drive bay and the fan to fit the filter, so I had to 'modify it' and place it behind the front panel. http://i.imgur.com/0egGzQ3l.jpg < With the front panel attached. The fan is a 120mm Corsair and with this particular setup you can't even feel the airflow 15cm from the fan on the other side of the hard drive cage. I'm new to PC 'modding', just checking if this is a decent install or essentially a waste of time.
  10. I'm currently running the ram in sockets 1 and 3, would 2 and 4 make any difference? I'll give a go with the bios. I've never done it before.
  11. I ran memtest for a few hours with no errors. I'm getting the feeling its not the ram.
  12. Would you say I'm correct in thinking its likely a motherboard issue? Messages like that make me lean away from it being the memory. The powersupply is under a year old and Silverstone branded, so it seems unlikely to be that as thats a high quality part. I'll run the memtest overnight and see if I can work out how to reflash the bios. I've already reset it to no avail. Unfortunately 1155 boards seem to be rarer than hens teeth these days. I'm more just trying to work out what parts to replace. If its the motherboard I think I'll just buy a new 1150 board and CPU. If I can reuse my ram and powersupply without needing to change those that would save a lot of cash.
  13. Also this is new for today when it won't boot. Its not overclocked...
  14. Awesome, thanks for the starting point guys. I'll do that today. I'm still not completely convinced its the ram because it freezes in POST. This morning it decided it would get into a 'rebooting loop' and would repeatedly power on and off every few seconds before I got any screen activity. I'll take a stick of ram out and run memtest.
  15. I've been having issues with my system locking up recently. It seems to happen mostly in the mornings when the system is cool (and has been off all night). Its not uncommon for it to freeze five times in a row when rebooting it. Usually after been in windows for a minute or two. Specs i5 - 3450, 8gb memory (1600mhz, generic brand, 2x4gb), Asus P8-77-V motherboard, Corsair 600w PSU, Asus 660 GTX video card, Sandisk SSD and Samsung 1tb hdd. I'm really at quite a loss as what to change. I made a boot thumb drive for memtest86 and it didn't find any errors when I let it run for about an hour. Its also hard to diagnose exactly what the issue is when it only freezes occasionally. It will sometimes go a week without any issues then do it day after day after day. The only thing I can notice a pattern in is most of the time it does it after a cold boot. It will rarely do it after the system has been running for hours. Any help would be appreciated.
  16. Favorite Item: Kuhler 1250, because dust free and silentish coolers are much better than the OEM fan I currently use.
  17. Yeah I agree, the 450D is a great looking case. When I checked prices and there is only $50 in it between the two. I think the Corsair 450D is the way to go! Thanks for the tip about the 3 pin splitter, I didn't know such a thing existed. I'm upgrading from a basic thermal take case which doesn't seem to be providing very good air flow when I recently got a 770 GTX. Rather then spending all the money on new case fans its not significantly more expensive just to buy a new case with included fans.
  18. Looks solid. Decent cooling and a nice design. Is there any real reason to go the 450 or just styling? I must admit the price isn't really an issue. I only buy cases every 5 years so $100 is neither here nor there over that time period. Does the 300R have removable dust filter is the question?
  19. Yeah it does not seem like a good idea to be drawing heat into the PSU which is coming directly off the video card and CPU. That seems like a really bad design choice and is surprising to see in a case that is $100+ USD. particularly when even $20 cases have bottom intake entry for the PSU. Looks like its 450D for me in that case. The H440 is awesome but no cd driver is just a no, my desktop is the only CD drive I have and you still occasionally need them. Do you know if the 450D case fans can be connected to the motherboard speed control or if you have to use the fan controller? I think my motherboard only has 2 fan connections and the 450d has 3 case fans, but 2 is plenty active for me so i'll just leave one unconnected.
  20. Are these full ATX? This is at the top of my list. I love the styling of the Lian Li 8N but it doesn't have an intake fan for the power supply. Which is shocking in 2014.
  21. I want something for basic enthusiast use. I don't run duel cards or liquid cooling so something quite with good dust filters would be great. I don't want a Fractal Design R4 because I don't like the styling. I'm sure they're great cases but not for me.
