  1. curious to know how much power is put into that transmitter to deliver 3w wirelessly...?
  2. why did they bother making this an ATX motherboard case? Seems silly given the single expansion slot compatibility... If it was ITX or mATX it would have far more room for a standard power supply and maybe better cooling...
  3. Lol... Can't catch a break... Just giving a little update for fun. Not really looking for advice now, it is no longer in my incapable hands. Caved and bought a new Asus X99-a motherboard, i7-5820k and 32gb of corsair vengence ddr4 memory. Was rather excited about the whole thing. Plopped it all together and VOALA! Won't post, memory error. Error 61 on the board if anyone is interested. Went about troubleshooting again with single stick (different stick, different slots) and removed everything that didn't have to do with it posting in the most minimal way. Still nope... Caved again and brought it to my local ncix for repair. I'm just going to throw money at it until it works i think...? Terrible plan but it's all I got hah!
  4. did a bunch of testing again last night at a friends house. We removed the mobo from the case to see if something was shorting out. This made no difference on either mobo. Tried a different, known working, psu on both boards with no luck. Also got a single stick of known work memory to toss in as well. And for fun a different gpu in case it didn't like booting without a graphics interface for some reason. So I basically built a new computer! New mobo, ram, and CPU... I think I might actually have two dead processors... The second one I'm testing with reacts differently but still won't boot. So either the second cpu was never really working (it came out of a computer that was thought to have a defective board, another x79 sabertooth...) or that my mobo cooked it along with my own CPU. hopefully my GPU and all my storage and boot drives are okay. Data wise I'm not worried but it's still like $600 in drives... So my options now I think are to either find another lga2011 processor (they don't seem easy to find or cheap) or buy a new system entirely. I'm leaning towards a new system just so I don't waste more time on this.
  5. I am going to go to a buddies house after work and try a different PSU and ram. Hopefully we discover something...
  6. well this just keeps getting worse. Tried a new mobo (x79 Deluxe) and now I get about 1/2 second of booting. CPU light is on and the board display reads 00. Tried flashing the bios a couple times with no success. Without the CPU installed, the board will stay running. However the CPU light remains. tried my spare CPU and it would stay running for longer (eventually shuts off and starts boot looping) however the CPU light would be on still. Have I got two dead boards? dead CPUs? both? everything buggered... so annoyed that I'm now wasting money on crap and still have no puter.
  7. Thanks for the help. The fans on the GPU would only twitch for the split second the power button is pressed just like the other case fans. I never tried powering it with no CPU though... Probably wouldn't tell me anything useful... perhaps it would narrow down what is wrong with the board specifically...? But that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.
  8. alright thanks. Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything obvious. I've met two other people with this board and both are toast... sounds like there might be something wrong with these boards. Given that I can't buy anything with this socket anymore I'm left to go to CL... Found an x79 deluxe for $200 that I will pick up tonight then send this one off for RMA. Can't have all this downtime...
  9. Was using my puter and suddenly everything shut off. At first I thought it was a power outage but the monitors were still on, just no signal. This was built in 2012, I have since added 2 more HD and some ram. No recent changes in the last 2 months. Case lights (the fractal blue lights) were on along with LAN blinkies, keyboard, mobo standby light. Fans and everything were off. Tried to restart, I get the standby light on the mobo and my fans would twitch a tiny bit. Components are: - Windows 7 Ultimate - Intel i7 3820 (Stock clock and using a Noctua NH-D14 ) - Asus X79 Sabertooth - 4x4GB Kingston Hyper X Genesis (1600MHz XMP profile 1) - 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance loprofile (1600HHz XMP profile 1) (added about 3 months ago) - MSI GTX 570 twinfrozr II (top PCI slot) - Kingston HyperX Predator 240GB PCIe mounted (boot drive, bottom PCI slot) (added about 6 months ago) - Crucial M4 Micron C400 SSD 256GB - WD Red 3tb (added about 2 months ago) - Asus optical drive - Corsair TX750M - Fractal Define R3, 4 fans began troubleshooting and did the following: - tested PSU (confirmed it turned on and checked voltages on the 24 pin and 8 pin) - removed GPU - removed all ram sticks, reorganized, tried different slots, single sticks, different sticks... - disconnected all drives - clear CMOS - BIOS flashback through USB (yes i was able to do this. I was originally on I THINK the original BIOS 0709, updated to 1203) - swapped to a different CPU - removed all fans, usb, audio, everything from the mobo -tried shorting the pins for the power button instead of using the case button No matter how much or how little components were arranged on the mobo, I would not get any post. No beeps, no lights, no fans, nothing... I am able to power the board and have the green standby LED on, but none of the troubleshooting lights would turn on (for instance no GPU should put the light on. It does nothing.) I can get the LAN blinky going and I can flash the bios and the fans to twitch for a fraction of a second, but cannot make it post. I'm thinking the board is cooked. Before I go and get another board and have this one RMA, should I try anything else? I don't have a spare PSU to try but from my tests, it seems fine. Thanks!
  10. I'm looking to organize the C stand studio lights at work and remember seeing a sweet rack thing that Linus was showing off in one of the "moving into the new office" videos. I would like to get some more info about it and some input before I go and make my own. These stands take up a lot of room and I need to make them nice and portable! Thanks!
  11. the Aria headset looks awesome. Really looking to move away from using my gaming headset. Thanks LMG and Feenix for the cool giveaway!
  12. Hey explosive atmosphere rated! That's actually pretty neat. From the dell website: IEC 60529 ingress protection3: IP-65 (dust-tight, protected against pressurized water) Hazardous locations3: ANSI/ISA.12.12.01 certification capable (Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C,D), CAN/CSA C22.2, optional ATEX 1 compliant model available 10 Electromagnetic interference3: MIL-STD-461F certified And descriptions of what that means. Class I, Div. 2 - Where ignitable concentrations of flammable gases, vapors, or liquids are present within the atmosphere under abnormal operating conditions. basically the device won't cause an explosion when working in an environment that likes to explode, making it intrinsically safe. If you've ever tried to buy anything with such a rating, the prices get CRAZY. I've dealt with this before and even a simple flashlight is in the hundreds of dollars for one that actually produces decent light similar to my 10 dollar dealextreme flashlight.
  13. fractal define r5 is the case I would go for. I personally don't like big windows or anything so it fits the bill nicely.
  14. Excellent! Thanks everyone. Does it matter which PCI slot I use? The folks at NCIX said that I should use the other x16 slot. This will use up the slot used for a second GPU if I wanted to run SLI in the future. I don't really plan on doing that, but I would like to keep the option open. From what I understand I should be able to use the bottom slot (PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x8 mode)) for this without sacrificing my other x16 slot.
  15. Not sure if this should go in motherboard section or storage... Please correct me if it is wrong. I just placed an order for a Kingston HyperX Predator 240GB PCIe SSD (http://www.ncix.com/detail/kingston-hyperx-predator-240g-shpm2280p2h-240g-19-107935-1334.htm ) but I'm not entirely certain that it works with my motherboard. I am lacking in knowledge about PCIe so I would just like a confirmation about that will work with my mobo. I have a Asus X79 Sabertooth (more info here: https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_X79/ ) and I am currently only using the top PCIe slot for my graphics card. I was in need of more space and this was on sale so I figured why not. Going to pick it up tomorrow though and would be really choked if it didn't work with my system. I do a lot of photo and video editing and I found that faster storage helped things move along more smoothly. For reference, here is the rest of my build. Intel Core i7 3820 Quad Core 10MB 3.6GHZ Hyperthreading LGA2011 Processor Kingston HyperX 4X4GB DDR3-1600 XMP Dual Channel Memory Crucial M4 Micron C400 SSD 256GB 2.5IN MSI GTX570 Twin Frozr II Running windows 7 Ultimate The reviews for this SSD seem impressive but if anyone has any other thoughts about it I would like to hear them. Thanks!
