  1. I am using both. I did not plug in the low noise adaptors. The Noctua is far from being the loudest part in my system so I will test it once I have a new case and new case fans. I do have both of the fans plugged into my motherboard though.
  2. Yes, I did use In-place large FFTs No, updating the BIOS had no effect on my temps. My system would crash under full load. Whioch I found very odd. I really do trust the reliability of Gigabyte motherboards. If you look at the Z97x-UD5H it ships with BIOS version F4. If you look at version F8 Improve Intel K-sku CPU performance That's all it does. And that was the issue my 4790 K (<-!) had.
  3. Yeah, I used the 2. one. I'd expect you to get similiar results. the airflow in my case is atrocious, but there's a large 200mm blowing down on my CPU cooler directly, so it all evens out.
  4. I used the one that stresses both CPU and memory. It was for a general burn in after I got my PC back from the repair shop. Remember kids, update your BIOS. CPU load made my PC crash with a Kernel Power Error and the PSU was not at fault.
  5. Ambient temp in my room is in the mid 20s right now. Winter in Germany I used the latest Version from here, 28.5
  6. Really good Video. Wasn't actually that complicated. Data was presented very well. I do like Brandon as a host. I feel, that this is something that LMG should look into. Either for the LTT channel or a new one. Branch out, maybe specialize. When Linus talked to PCPer's Ryan Shrout the amount of indepth knowledge displayed, showed how much more detailed you guys could go. Maybe not on the daily videos. Maybe in a format opposite to Fast As Possible, where you really dig deep into architecture topics etc.
  7. Yeah, but their point is, that Noctua fans are expensive and deliver the results one expects fo the price tag, where as Corsair fans are expensive and look kinda good. (<-Period) Back to OPs question Linus did a about the cooling performance benefits of push-pull compared to only having fans on one side. Keeping that in mind, maybe add the budget for the additional fans to your alotted AiO budget. That way you have a broader selection of great AiOs like the CM Nepton 240M.
  8. For 250, I'd just buy more than one Do you want Full size, TLK, 60%, do you want backlighting, RGB. At that kind of a budget, just get the one that tickles your fancy the most. I mean, you will probably get Cheery switches either way, so get the board you like most and maybe some additional keycaps. The worlds your oyster!
  9. I stress tested my stock 4790k with the Noctua NH-D15 in Prime 95 for half an hour. ~25°C Idle ~55°C Highest Load temp Unfortunately I didn't upload the screenshot but I will attest to the potency of the cooler, especially considering that the arflow in my case is a mess.
  10. Using a Noctua NH-D15 for my 4790k ~25°C Idle ~55°C Prime95 load for half an hour Safe to say, I am very happy with it.
  11. I have yet to find a modeller who complains about having head room when it comes to performance, especially when the have to render somethign out. Considering the markup is pretty much on par with the gain in performance, it makes sense. About the PSU: Efficiency does not necessarily have to drop. Remember, it follows a bell curve and is actually most efficient when around the 50% mark (please don't quote me on the exact number) So, higher capacity + higher rating should result in better efficiency.
  12. Cherry also builds their own mechanical keyboards. Maybe look at the Cherry MX 3.0 keyboard? I know it is available with blue switches, I just can't figure out which entry it is on amazon.co.uk cause I am kind of in a rush.
  13. Correct, but if you look at the , the sign in front of the card he mentioned also called it the GTX 980 Hydro Copper. I was unable to find any other product name for this model, so I guess the confusion is justifiable.
  14. That's in interessting point. I do have 2 caveats though. #1 is noise. If you look at the link solutions, they all have 4 pin-Molex power connectors. So the fan will run at full speed the whole time. So why passively cool your CPU if you're going to introduce this kind of a sound source. #2 is air preassure. With this setup you are creating negative air preassure. So you will have to clean your system a lot more often because of all the dust being sucked into the nooks and crannies.
  15. I am not sure that there is a viable use case for this kind of a cooler. I can kind of understand the blower style fan to exhaust more hot air out of the case. But you could just as easly do that by creating a strong positive air preassure with multiple slower spinning case fans. Exhausting GPU heat would probably be the most useful thing. But even then, the Molex connector will probably make that thing super loud all the time.
  16. I am assuming that you want an air cooler, since you opened the topic in this subforum. Have you looked at the BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 3 or Scythe Grand Kama Cross? Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find compatibility lists for either. Since you have such a high budget, a high-end all-in-one water cooler like the Corsair H100i might be a more compelling choice.
  17. I googled if Blender (I'm assuming that is the 3D modelling tool used) benefits from hyper threading and quick/old results suggest that it does so very much. So I'd suggest staying with the i7 CPU. I do like your find with the R9 290 instead of the R9 280X for practically the same price! Considering that this machine will be in heavy use, I do think that going for gold efficiency is warranted. This EVGA PSU is well below the original option in price, while keeping the same efficiency rating and featuring full modularity.
  18. Are you missing the whole drive cage, or only the single sleds? If the whole cage is missing, I think that you have actually parts missing. The single sleds you could buy from Corsair directly I'd reconn. Just shoot them an Email. Although missing all of them feels like you have needed parts missing, again.
  19. Yep, and I really hope it meets the sales expectations I am really happy that these mods exist. I have no issue ripping off a GPU cooler. But there are issues with these types of coolers. You do need a reference card. Not only the reference PCB but also the fan from the blower cooler. That's something that has to be kept in mind when initialy purchasing the GPU. I'm not sure everyone does that. But these aftermarket AiO GPU cooling solutions were not my initial question. Yeah, these drawbacks are a big issue. But I don't really see your point with the current cards. There is a tangible performance boost to be had with better cooling. Now, I do know, that the better performance is paid with a non proportional price premium, but that's where the other benefit of the AiO comes in. Potentially way better accustics. And the "potentially" is the operative word here. With coolers like we have on the STRIX cards for example, do we actually need these exotic solutions, considering that actually GPU cooling is only used under load? Does the fan noise even bother us at that point. Which brings me to the previous cards to use this kind of solution. Did they make sense? Did they sell well enough to warrant them?
  20. What about the oldie but goldie Cherry Evolution Stream? Flat full keyboard.
  21. I wish man. I currently use 2 1680x150 monitors I recommended the LG 34UM95 to a friend. He sent me a screenshot of his WoW interface. I cannot drag out the screenshot to native resolution. His horizontal resolution is higher that both of my monitors....
  22. I use a Blue Yeti, so I have no interest in buying this microphone. What might be interessting though is the shock mount. I'm still using my Yeti on the included stand, much to the dismay of my friends on Skype (Cherry MX Blues) and the shockmount for the Yeti ist ridiculousy expensive. So this optional shock mount, or after a while third party shock mounts might be a viable option. As for the product. Yes, it might "only" be a reskinned Blue Yeti. But I take that as a good thing. Microphone quality has for too long fallen by the wayside and people stepping up to quality like this is definitely a huge advancement! Oh, and everyone hating on Razer for the mark up. Yes, the Yeti is 30% cheaper (here in Germany) but Razer does still have R&D costs. These costs have to be accounted for. If people know Razer as a brand that delivers quality, something that I would attest to (although this anecdotal evidence is a problem when it comes to forming an opinion of a manufacturer), then adding another piece to their whole peripheral eco-system for stuff that looks good(taste is subjective, I know) and functions well just plain makes sense.
  23. I was really excited when I saw the CES coverage video about Ultra wide freesync monitors. But I too would rather have the additional pixels, especially at that size.
