  1. can you check my above puush's and make sure they seem correct? simlarly this one: http://puu.sh/mFiDi/ab24bce9bb.png I have no issues accessing the fileserver now from my pc. However, and it's not really an issue at all, but no other devices can be reached other than the fileserver - which i'm assuming indicates theres something wrong with the static routes.
  2. while i was waiting response i tried setting up a different static route, my initial one: http://puu.sh/mFimt/6ff5fdfeac.png i then added: http://puu.sh/mFioM/63e8de03db.png and i can now access the fileserver. a bit weird because i assumed that 192.168.2.0 would tell it to access all IP's in the range 192.168.2.x using that gateway, but I guess not.
  3. There are 2 separate internet connections in my house, one which I solely use, and one which everyone else in the house uses. These are currently managed by 2 separate modem routers. However, there is a windows-based fileserver with a large amount of files located on the larger network, that I would like to be able to access from my PC. I have currently set this up, [MY PC](192.168.1.2)<-->[ROUTER 1](192.168.1.1)(LAN)<---->(LAN)(192.168.1.99)[ROUTER 3](192.168.2.99)(WAN)<---->(LAN)[ROUTER 2](192.168.2.1)<-->[FILESERVER](192.168.2.16) and set up static routes to access each network via ROUTER 3. From my PC I can ping ROUTER 2 and receive a response, but receive time-outs when i attempt to ping FILESERVER. Likewise, when FILESERVER pings ROUTER 1, it receives a response, but time-outs when it tries to ping MY PC. I have firewalls disabled and both machines are currently in the DMZ for their respective networks. Anyone have any ideas?
  4. thanks for all the replies guys ! a lot to think about I think if i keep wanting more the x99-esque route is probably something i'll strongly consider. I just picked up 32GB of ram so hopefully that makes the applications run a little smoother. I'm assuming getting a quadro would be IN PLACE of getting a better CPU/platform, because you would render on the quadro, not the cpu??? anyone can confirm?
  5. Hi guys! I built a rig in May, with the intention of future proofing/having fun, I play some TF2 competitively and a very few AAA titles so the actual components didn't matter much. My build consists of the following: CPU: i7 4790k - light OC to 4.3ghz Cooler: Corsair H100i Mobo: Asus Maximus VII Gene microATX RAM: 16GB 1600mhz (4x4GB) GPU: Asus GTX970 DirectCUII SSD: Samsung 850 EVO - 250GB HDD: WD Black 3TB 7200rpm PSU: Corsair 860i 860W Case: Corsair Air240 The last couple of months I've started doing a fair amount of video editing and rendering, primarily in After Effects, Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas and using VirtualDub to stitch together large amounts of images and wav files. While I don't think the performance I'm getting is BAD, I am looking to spend some money where appropriate to try and gain a discernible performance increase. I currently have the SSD partitioned into Windows // Speed-dependent programs. So I have AE/PP installed on this second partition, with the disk caches using this partition. My initial assessment is that I definitely need to look at 32GB - 64GB of ram, as I'm generally using up to 14-15GB with these programs open, so I'm sure they would like to use more. Secondly, the video files I usually work on are located on the hard drive, and then I cache into the SSD. Would it be beneficial to install a second, larger SSD (potentially 2 in RAID 0?), to have the AE/PP cache to and move video files I'm working on to this SSD? I'm looking for any ideas/recommendations to speed up editing/rendering without spending months of wages, but anywhere in the $1000-$1500AUD is feasible at this stage. Obviously, if this becomes something I'm doing more and more often, I would look at moving to the enthusiast grade platform, potentially when skylake-based enthusiast grade CPU/Chipset is released. This would be a significant cost, so if anyone has any idea whether this would be worth it in terms of increasing the speed and "ease" of working with larger video files /rendering etc. that would be greatly appreciated !
  6. gave that a whirl and no dice. might try and set up from scratch and see what happens
  7. So I've done up a quick diagram to try and explain how i've got my network setup. (attached) The issue is that my main PC attached to the TP-link router is pinging the main router around 8-15ms. Doesn't seem like much but theres noticeable latency browsing the web, gaming and using network apps. However, wired clients attached to the other end are all running 1 - <1 ms. The wireless networks are bridged but basically wireless clients at either end of the house ping the router at about 4-6ms. The TP-link has the ethernet from the main router into a standard LAN port, has all DHCP, NAT, UPnP disabled. I've disabled all of the TP-link security features. When i connect the main PC directly to the main router using the long ethernet cable, the router ping is <1ms. I've tried using a different ethernet cable, adding the main PC (Static IP) as the DMZ server for the TP link router and matched the MTU size, doesn't seem to effect the ping. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this??
  8. Yeah all the power management was turned off, but delving into the bios did show me that I had the max temp set to 50C so I'm assuming the motherboard was throttling. Given the max temp on this chip is ~61C i might wait and reset the thermal compound (has been on for 16 months-ish) and maybe lower the OC down to 4.4GHz so I can lower the voltage before I change that max temp.
  9. I'm still running F9, F10d is available with updated AGESA code but it was still beta when i last checked so I haven't updated. Large FFT's gives the same thing, down to about 3.5GHz... EDIT: from bios Version: FC Bios date: 2/5/2013 bios ID: 8A02BG01
  10. Nah all stock clocks, did a heap the last few days and have narrowed it done to something on the board most likely. swapped out cpu / memory / psu / hard drive so picking up a new board in a couple days
  11. So I've had my fx-8350 oc'd for about 12 months now with no issues, but i recently upgraded win7 to 8.1 and decided to recheck stability. I've added my cpu-z screencap for details. Under prime95 small FFT's about every 10-15 seconds the core speed drops to 3.5-3.6 GHz and the voltage fluctuates (up and down), before going back to normal speeds after about a second. Checked in CPU-Z and hwinfo64. I checked thermals and after 20mins it doesn't go over 55c (h100i in about 25-28C degree ambient temp), and the power in/out/efficiency appears stable (corsair link ax860i). The motherboard (990fxa-ud3) has 8+2 phase power so that shouldn't be the cause. The issue appears to happen only with large loads and very occasionally under the quick gaming tests I did before posting here. Is this an issue I should be concerned about?
  12. Hey @jmasta111 did you end up finding a solution to this? Someone in the family having very similar issues; only freezes with video rendering (seemingly), after fresh install and standard hardware checks.
  13. Hmmmm I did chuck an fx-8350 in it (from one of my desktops) to see if it ran and it seemed to run fine for the few hours of fiddling I did. I was concerned about the 4+1 power initially. Anyone have any recommendations for mATX boards that are similarly all black and have better power design?
  14. So my younger sisters are starting to get into pc games and requested a decent computer, so i took the opportunity to start work on something that should get the job done. The previous machine was a gross OEM dust magnet I built for them about 18-24 months ago for general web browsing.... see below... I grabbed a 350D because i just really love these cases, especially the capabilities corsair gets out of the form factor. I kept the gigabyte 78lmt-usb3 despite reservations with the lack of sata3 support, but given they wouldn't know the difference i'm going to roll with it. It's currently got an old phenom II x4 955 with a stock cooler, 8GB of 1600Mhz GeIL enhance corsa, an XFX bronze semi-modular 650W power supply, and some REALLY poor graphics card from the OEM, a HD6570. I'm using a Samsung evo 240GB SSD for OS. I grabbed a green 30cm bitfenix alchemy to start the green theme that i'm going to roll through the case It's got an asus DVDRW for the purpose of installing a heap of sims games  Also has an Asus Wireless PCI card (NOTE: iphone does a horrible job of capturing the green when theres ambient light, will take better photos when finished.) Parts to get: FX-8350 to OC to approx 4.5 H100i (Maybe... or some other AIO cooler, i currently use a h100i in my red theme build and quite enjoy being able to change the corsair logo LED colour) GTX780 (ASUS directcuii most likely). Bitfenix green LED fans (would prefer corsair AF series with green LED but dont seem to exist). Noctua NF-P12's for the AIO cooler, which will be lightly sanded and painted green most likely using can WD Caviar black 2TB Other jobs: Taking the heat spreaders off the RAM and painting green. Getting all black SATA cables and mounting SSD on mobo backplate. + getting longer sata power cables Painting DVD interior casing if the drive is going to stay painting coloured 24pin and other power/front panel IO connectors Pondering: Is it worth fixing the aesthetics of the PSU?
  15. what plates did you use to mount it? I'd love to that but with the duals i'd probably have to go custom loop no matter what; which at the end of the day isn't worth it for 660ti's.
