Day Three - Dichotomy
Ladles and gentlespoons, welcome to another update from me. I had to call in sick yesterday, but not for illness; instead, I had my first day at a new job. I always told myself I would never work in IT after my degree. I hated the subject professionally... And yet, here I am. On my first say I completely reorganised their HR management, they were using names not UUIDs for everything. And mistakes have slowly crept in from the increasing workload on a static-sized team. So they now have a UUID system for every volunteer, paid employee and account(usually regular donors like businesses and gov grants).
My next plan is to automate their hour tracking system for volunteers, it is currently based on daily emails from each department head tracking it and then having this moved to a spreadsheet, which is then manually entered into their HR platform. Each step can add problems, especially because the entire system is dependent on a single employee. I'm going to investigate API access for the HRDB, if it has then, then hopefully be able to use a pi and a barcode scanner to allow them to clock in and out directly to the HR platform. The volunteer lead says this currently takes 2-5 hours per week, so automating this alone will add hundreds of hours of productivity that can be used for something else.
Anyway, my day has not been bad at all tbh. My pain is fairly bad, as I expected and it is exhausting meeting so many new people and coming into so many little problems. But, I kinda hoped for this, it's quite possible I may be moving away to university in a few months. So, want to be able to help fix a bunch of shit and then leave them leaner and more able to direct time to helping people. I'm listing to my daily ukraine war update, I'm not going to link it as I am not sure on it being allowed or not under politics. But yeah, that's what I am listening too. Also, it's hot! It's 28.7C/83.66F in here right at this moment; that heatwave I posted about yesterday seems to have arrived. Guess this is the summer sauna sprint for me.
Right, enough yapping about myself and my worries, why don't we have a look at those ranks! miker07 seems to like the throne and is sitting comfortably there. Something we have come to expect from the guy, I must admit, they take the rank with 362,937,791 points. Running up on the silver side of the podium, we can see Shlouski, who did slightly outproduce the king today, take his rank with 321,404,724 points, and for the bronze side we have the legend that is Mixie, who has been here longer than I have! He takes the third rank with a total of 209,269,741 points. Check out this loser, GOTSpectrum, in fourth thinks they are cool for being so high up the table. But in all honestly, I just think they are a nerd. Anyway, they take the rank with 98,136,806 points. This is another slight increase from yesterday. For the last of the top five we have Favebook, sitting in fifth place not aware of the stone rolling behind him. But, for right now, he takes the rank with 92,955,777 points in the bag.
Moving on from the top five we have number six! Currently being occupied by RollinLower, now guys, I don't know if he is austrailian, but it feels like he is rolling higher, now lower! He takes the sixth rank with a total of 87,552,709 points. will0hlep, the spreadsheet wizard whom I am scared to let play with my own sheet, is sitting in 7th place after falling a rank with a tally of 79,040,669. Will, DM me, I just remembered I need to ask you something, also maybe I'll let you have a play at some point
. Oskarix is a new name to me for this event, but they are certainly showing us they are no slouch when it comes to science. They take the rank of 8th place after producing 65,014,853 points so far, following not far behind, though we have Oestle who outproduced the guy ahead by about half a mill. They take rank nine with a collection of 60,200,631 points. Finally for this update we have the post of the honourable gatekeeper that is being filled by SEAN13018 with a record of 55,689,252 points.
I would usually write about big changes here, I'm going to very quickly point a couple out, but I'm tired, I'm ready for bed! TheCamba, 19th after a 7 rank gain with 21,580,528, jctappel67 is steaming ahead at ramming speed, in 30th after a rank gain of 14 with a total of 8,072,887 and finally TVwazhere managed to remember he was meant to be folding and gained 11 ranks, taking 46th with 234,080 points. Way to go, champ! Maybe someday you will start on time!
I'm going to go and watch some of my macroeconomics lecture in bed to relax, this day has been fun, but exhausting and socially draining. Though, it's nice to be back in the in-person workforce, even if it is in a field I would rather not be working in. Click here to see the full list of ranks!
Hasta Manana! Happy folding,
Spec
