  1. Do you have any updates on the NAS software you invested in? I'm really looking forward to it! I would like to switch to a ZFS sytem from Unraid. I have been looking at TrueNAS, but I would like to wait for your software before making a decision, since doing the migration is no fun.
  2. I am looking for quiet drives for a NAS in my room. To give you a baseline: My PC setup is completely silent. I have replaced all spinning HDDs with SSDs a long time ago and all fans are Noctua NF-A12x25 spinning at 400 rpm. So it is completely silent. I also have a Synology NAS with 2x3tb WD Red. While they are audible, the spinning noise is fine. The noise while accessing them is very quiet. I have read about the higher capacity drives also being louder, with the Ironwolf drives being a lot louder than the WD Reds. What is your experience? Up to what capacity does the noise not increase to much? Any specific models to recommend?
  3. I just bought a machine to start playing around with, with the eventual goal to succeed my Synology NAS. So far I have done quite a bit of reading, but am still not sure which system will fit my needs the best. Right now I am thinking abut TrueNAS Core, TrueNAS Scale, Unraid or OpenMediaVault. I am open to any suggestions, solutions for mentioned problems or anything else you might have to add! I have written down some requirements and wishes that I have for this system. Also open for suggestions here. I would prefer to be able to do all of the configuration of OneDrive Backup, VPN Server, etc within a GUI. Hardware: i5 6500 16gb RAM (on the way, 4gb to start with for the first few days) Boot SSD 500gb HDD for testing, will be 2x(6tb-12tb) mirrored when deployed. Expandability would be nice. Requirements: Plex Server VPN Server Backup Onedrive -> NAS (or sync in the future) Snapshots or versioning of individual files Nice to have: Docker (probably necessary for VPN and Plex server anyway) Nextcloud (automatic) Backup to USB Drive for backup purposes. Partial backups should be possible, as not all data is that important. Ideally with some versioning. TrueNAS Core -Expansion of ZFS not easily possible. Need to create new vdev with its own redundancy. Since I am starting with just 2 drives, this would waste a lot of space and end in a dumb configuration when expanding -No Docker +Great plugins TrueNAS Scale -Expansion of ZFS not easily possible. Need to create new vdev with its own redundancy. Since I am starting with just 2 drives, this would waste a lot of space and end in a dumb configuration when expanding -Is not fully finished? What will be missing? +Docker +Are the same plugins available as for Core? Unraid +Great expandability +Docker -No Plugins for easy Onedrive Backup etc. Needs to be done in command line with rsync OpenMediaVault +Plugins +Docker +-Expandability? -Backup of config not possible -??? Please leave any input that you might have on this. I appreciate the help!
  4. That's what I was thinking. Under load water cooling will be quieter than air cooling. But when idleing the pump still needs to run. No need for passive cooling. My NF-A12x25 at 400rpm-600rpm are fine for idle and also fine to ramp up a bit under load. It's the pump at idle that I am concerned about. The AIO I had and ran at minimum spin up speed of the pump had this barely noticeable humm from the motor (not bubbles). It was most obvious when turning off the computer or unplugging the pump for a second and it's suddenly gone.
  5. Currently my setup is completely silent. I have replaced all spinning HDDs with SSDs a long time ago and all fans are Noctua NF-A12x25 spinning at 400 rpm. Other fans sometimes had a little bit of clicking from the motor when running at slow speeds. This is to give you a reference as to the noise level (or lack thereof) I want to achieve. From your personal experience, is it possible to get a D5 or a DDC down to inaudible levels with PWM control? Or will there always be some amount of noise coming from them? I have had an AIO for a short amount of time and even when turning that pump down to the bare minimum that it would start at, it was still audible. Flow and cooling are not a concern. I am fine with a bit of noise once I actually put some load on my PC while gaming. So I will regulate the pump and fans with a curve. I want it to be completely silent while browsing though.
  6. I would love to win the razer blade stealth since I need a light notebook with long battery life to carry around to Uni.
  7. I have a corsair m65, my keyboard is a corsair k60 and my headset is a hyperx cloud gaming
  8. I currently have an r9 280x in my pc. I would love to win the 480x so that I get to play around with new tech and check out the overclocking potential of the card
  9. I would love to win the mouse because sadly my corsair m65 cable got screwed up by the sharp edge of my desk
  10. Thanks for the suggestion. Just tried it. It does not seem to be working with the r9 series cards (at least not with mine)
  11. Does anyone know of a way to achieve this on AMD cards? I used to have the ability to make a fan curve with 0% RPM with my old hd7850. Now my new r9 280x is too loud for my liking and I would like to have the 0% unlocked again when I make a fan curve that includes anything under 20% the fans will just stay at their 20% speed since this seems to be the minimum in the bios
  12. Sweet! Sounds awesome I understand why you would want to move platforms, so I hope all goes well! Username: Maverik5124 Favorite videos: https://www.vessel.com/videos/LPECtSnEh https://www.vessel.com/videos/LCoY5zfFf Shares: https://twitter.com/Maverik5124/status/580315284042588160
  13. My favorite item in this bundle is the aio watercooler because it makes cooling so quiet and performs good
