Music - Classically trained trombone player, I also play French horn, piano, and violin. I enjoy music from the Baroque period (early 1700's) through the Neoclassical and Contemporary styles, as well as smooth jazz, big band, and the scores to films and video games.

History - I'm a huge history buff. It's my major in college, and hopefully I'll be a college professor one day. I most enjoy the classics (Ancient Greece and Rome) and European history from the late 19th century through modern day, though I like American history, Middle Eastern studies, and Far Eastern studies as well.

Gaming - I've been a gamer since the tender age of 4 when a gameboy was first placed into my palms with the game "Pokemon". In fact, it's how I learned to read, as I was getting nowhere while I was illiterate. Currently the game I play the most is League of Legends, though I also enjoy a multitude of PC, Play Station, and Pokemon games. My favorite game of all time, as many of you can guess due to my name and picture, is Final Fantasy VII. In fact, if there were to be released a high quality remake of FFVII, it is quite possible that search parties would be sent out for me due to people thinking I'd gone missing from the intense binge of gaming I would go on after purchasing that game.

  1. Recently for me, Chrome has only been showing the top 4 most visited sites for me, instead of 8 like it was a few days ago. Instead at the bottom, rather than 4 links to sites, I get an invite to view something about black history which I don't really care about. Anyone have a fix?
  2. Not sure it's going to be allowed to pass; Massachusetts is facing problems trying to impose an additional tax on incomes over $1,000,000.00 to be used for education and transportation, but that's facing opposition because it's not exactly legal to pre-allocate funds of specific taxes for a specific purpose (e.g. you also couldn't do a 10% tax on sugar and say revenue from the tax would be used to fund public health). Of course, it also could simply be that those affected by the proposed Mass law definitely have the access to and ability to hire the best lawyers to fight said tax, and this might not face such opposition in Rhode Island. Just an interesting thing to note.
  3. Thing is, these disks were being used in a RAID 0 volume with Windows 7 before I moved over to X299. I never had an issue with it there, and even RAID 1 for Win10 X299 was setup flawlessly. I'm just at a loss as to why RAID 0 seemingly won't install...
  4. Hiya! I'm trying to load my OS on a RAID array of 2 Samsung 850 Pro SSDs. The OS in question is Windows 10 Pro, the motherboard is the Asus Rampage VI Extreme, and the fucker doesn't want to work with RAID 0. I can see the full volume 238.5 GB of unallocated space, but I cannot do anything to install windows when it is setup in RAID 0. I just get errors of unable to install windows on this location, which persist after using the command prompt to clean the drive. The windows installer UEFI will not let me create a bootable partition out of that unallocated space either; in fact, when trying to create a partition in the command prompt by selecting the disk and entering the command "create partition primary" I get a CRC error. And, mind you, I'm using the directions from the ASUS manual (https://dlsvr04.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA2066/ROG_RAMPAGE_VI_EXTREME/E12842_ROG_RAMPAGE_VI_EXTREME_UM_WEB.pdf) still with 0 luck. So for shits and giggles I wanted to see if I would run into the same error with RAID 1, and that fucker installed and booted up with no problem! I'm at a complete loss here, and beyond pissed at my incompetence/inability to find a solution, so does anyone have ideas on what might be going wrong or what I could try? Thanks! -Sephiroth
  5. Hiya! So I'm looking to install a hard drive containing most of my steam library in my new Windows 10 build. Problem is, it's not being registered as formatted (was previously on a windows 7 machine) and when I go into disk management to select the drive it says I'm going to lose all the data when setting it to the NTFS format. Is there a way to do this without losing the data, or did I already fuck up somehow and will I have to go re-install all my games?
  6. Welp, for anyone who didn't know already, I'm just a moron. Apparently there is a way to change how many dpi levels can be had, in the form of a quick little up/down button. Hopefully if anyone ends up being as dumb as me, this helps
  7. I've recently found that my G502 can only cycle through 4 DPI presets instead of 5. Firmware is all up to date, OS is win7 pro. Any ideas on how to fix?
  8. I'm not sure that board is even for sale yet (wasn't it only recently announced like a week or two ago?) and if that's the case it'll probably come with the VROC hardware key. What's more, it's not like someone buying this board is going to be strapped for cash, what with it utilizing dual xeons and all. Far more likely for an X299 mid price range build to be carefully planned around VROC (even including the cost of the key) and then potentially derailed by having to get the key with an unwanted bundle or jump through hoops of obtaining it from their board manufacturer.
  9. This news is a few days old, however I've not seen it posted here yet and it's kinda worth while to talk about. The article comes from PC World and brings both good and bad news (https://www.pcworld.com/article/3234669/storage/intel-says-vroc-raid-isnt-dead-its-just-trapped-in-a-hardware-bundle.html). Let's start off with the bad: Intel will no longer be selling those VROC keys to consumers. If you want one, you need to buy it bundled with Intel SSDs or X299 motherboards. This is pretty shitty on Intel's part on a feature they've already managed to fuck up way more than I expected. This is especially true if any of you purchased your X299 PCs with the intent of making use of this feature, and already purchased 3rd party SSDs (Samsung 960 Pros being a likely choice for many, as Intel isn't really top quality in the SSD space yet, though it's possible the brand new optane SSDs change this). Hopefully board manufacturers won't make it too costly to obtain one of these, but depending on the board/system manufacturer you selected, you might not even be able to get one now. Also, I think it goes without saying that if you wanted to set up RAID directly off the CPU's PCIe lanes, and you don't require X299 specifically, AMD is your best bet as you won't need an add-in hardware key AND you won't be limited to a small subset of approved NVME SSDs. Fortunately, there was one nugget of good news So yeah, if you end up choosing Intel and obtaining a VROC key, at least you don't need to pay more to set up more secure RAID configurations. For now....

  11. You can also use RAMMap to see more accurately what programs are chowing down on your ram (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/rammap)
  12. Is there anything out there which gives a release time? I thought it was already supposed to be out, but can't find it anywhere.
