780ti won't idle?

Hey guys,
So out of the blue my EVGA gtx 780 ti has stopped going into idle mode when not under stress. The temps stay at about 50 celsius and the clock speed about 810 mHz. I have never done any overclocking to it but it is the 'SC' version so there is some factory overclocks.
The card still works as normal when gaming.

The only thing that has changed in my setup is my screen. I recently got a new g sync monitor.. could this be linked to my problem?

cheers, harry.

What resolutions and refresh rates are you running? I ran into the same exact issue earlier on when I had two 2560x1440 monitors and one 1080p display. Driving multiple screens at different resolutions and refresh rates requires significantly more processing power than identical displays.

After replacing the 1080p monitor with a 3rd 1440p display, my GPUs settled down to 324MHz and a cool 30C.

My new monitor runs at 1440p and 144hz refresh rate, and this is the only monitor I use.

My old monitor was only 1080p, so maybe my new monitor does have something to do with it..

I see. Personally, I don't have any firsthand experience with G-Sync monitors so perhaps someone who does can chime in. However, I can imagine that there would be a fair amount of processing involved in delivering 1440p resolutions at 144Hz, plus any overhead the G-Sync module itself requires so...it's possible it could be completely normal behavior.

You could try contacting Nvidia and see if they have any thoughts on the matter.

Had the same problem few days ago, mine happened to be a miner virus which was using a part of my gpu. Give your PC a scan just in case...

Check and see if you have K-boost enabled.  If K-boost is selected on Precision-x it will run gpu clocks at max frequency regardless of the load on the gpu

I'm quite certain it's not a virus of any sort as my GPU runs fine when in games.. Its just bloody noisy all the time now!! :(

K-boost is disabled, and I have the default button pressed in Precision x.

ahhh, its so frustrating, its bloody noisy all the time since this problem started!! :(

I run a pg278q at 144hz on 1440p. The card will not idle at this rate, and is totally normal. If you set the refresh to 120hz the card will idle.

Yep that does it! Guess I'll be running it at 120hz from now on, I guess I can change it when I start gaming if I really notice a difference..

Hopefully nvidia sort this out soon, not really good enough when you pay so much for a graphics card and then that again for a monitor.
