  1. yea i might *loan* a drive of Amazon, i am a horrible person
  2. took the pcb off to have a look http://i.imgur.com/8z7c57D.jpg
  3. hmm yea i wonder if grabbing the same harddrive and just swapping the pcbs
  4. I don't get the two actors reference, but yea smoke and the smell of despair. So sad right now, that's the first time ive ever made such a simple fuckup that has screwed me. Remeber to backup kids!
  5. Hi guys, can someone who knows anything about hard drives and the way power is delivered clarify if its even possible for me to get my data back from the drive I just toasted? So I have a Silverstone PSU and inserted the sata power lead incorrectly (Upside down) as i was just temporally plugging the drive in to pull some data off it after completing some upgrades. this pic should help give you an image of how ive managed this. http://i.imgur.com/vQLFiL7.jpg the PSU has the top row pointing upwards and the bottom with the latch pointing downwards. Anyway the drive went up in smoke and i cut the power instantly. Does anyone have any experience with data recovery and how much would i be looking at, or is it a lost cause?
  6. Placed my order, everthing but the gcard is on the way. I got some silverstone grill/filters in 80 and 120mm and will see how it looks and if i wonna go ahead with making a new intake on the bottom of the case, update soon!
  7. So building my first mini system. I just recently started a mobile job and staying in hotels most of the time. I want a system i can easily take about with me and hook-up to hotel TV's. The only thing i have purchased so far is the case. So ill go through my part selection so far and my reasoning behind the choices, any input/criticism would be greatly appreciated. Lian-Li PC TU 100B i5 4670k Z97I-PLUS Corsair 8GB 1600mhz Silverstone Strider SST-SX600-G SFX Crucial M500 240GB M.2 Corsair Hydro H75 Gigabyte 970 or Asus 970 Case: Small looks great and sweet handle. CPU: Got a good deal from OCN member. MB: Main reason being it has m.2 slot under the board, less cables to plugin compared ordinary drives. Has all video outputs, never know what ill find at a hotel. RAM: Already have sitting around not doing anything PSU: More power then i need but fan is off at idle. Can draw air in through the sidepanel vent, just need to get some filter material for it. Storage: Have no clue about m.2 standard, is this compatible with the motherboard? Cheap. 240gb more then enough for os and some games, all my TV shows are on my external hd. Cooler: Powered by motherboard header, no extra cables. Will remove stock fans and replace with one NF-F12. Thin rad, and single fan should hopefully be enough room for GPU. GPU: im thinking the asus will be better since it can exhaust out the back. even a little that might help. So I'm still uncertain about the cooling setup. my "plan" was to reverse the intended airflow. so pulling in from the back. get some dust filter material and stick that in place somehow so the entire back is filtered. this way no CPU heat inside the case. I was also planning to do a cut-out at the bottom for some air for the GPU. 80mm hole and 4 screw holes and put a premade filter in place. maybe even a shroud up to the gcard intake. >example< To get things started heres the case
  8. Thanks for the reply's guys, decided to go with A10 after talking with his dad. Don't really need to end up at a point that it can play battlefield. likely that a GPU wont be needed which is great. This is what i have so far: Any more suggestions? It looks a little different to pc part picker, the motherboard it was linking to was an older version with no HDMI, fixed that. have a pcie 1x wirelesscard lying around will use that. Case looks good value. SSD vs HDD was a hard choice, but i don't see them using a lot. And they have some one in the house who is good with computers if they need to clean it up a bit. Can we maybe save some money on the PSU? is there a PSU that has a reputation of being the best low cost option, don't think we need 500w but would still like quality. And lastly i wanted to ask is £10 saving worth going with the 6790k over the 6800k
  9. Hi guys, hoping to get some advice on the lower end of the market of which i know little. I have been with Intel throughout the many systems i have built, and they have always been for myself or gamming friends so often £600+. I am now tasked with a build for a 10 year old to be done as cheaply as possible, but i would like the system to have some flexibility to expand in the future. right now it just needs to play Facebook games and have some basic features to be used in the living room, HDMI out & wireless ect and nippy video playback. So at first i thought of the Pentium anniversary edition but overall i don't know enough to make an informed decision. I'm assuming an APU would be the better choice, faster video playback (more outputs?) but know nothing of that market either. Can i get some advice on what to buy, I'm hoping to keep the entire build around £250. Also most cheap cases look awful, any recommendations for a kids theme one or at least plain. ps. If anyone knows a place to get cheap windows 8 key can you pm me?
  10. Thanks for all the kind words! My OC is 4.7ghz 1.32v, 34 idle 55ish load. I've had the chip around that for its whole life so far so when i get some time ill see how good it really is. And not had the lightning long, to pre occupied playing battlefield to see what its capable of. Getting my needed 120fps for now otherwise i would find the time.
  11. Paying a little more on my graphics card makes me a fanboy? Maybe so, but making a themed build doesn't go hand in hand with getting the best performance per dollar. I'm still happy i put a bit more into it.
  12. Finished! well almost, just waiting on my ram. So for now we will just have to imagine >this< ram is in there. Only had my iphone4 to hand, did my best.
  13. The card itself, or just the weight of it in the motherboard? i assumed since it has a backplate it would have no flex to it.
  14. I love this board, the newer mpower however with the huge yellow heatspreader not so much. I was supprised by the size of the 750d, was bigger then i atticipated. I dont mind, it has so many options that i wont need to buy a new case for a long time. Thanks all for the comments.
