Unlocking Write Protected Hard Drive

So I received a couple 1T HDDs from a former employee of USA. On trying to initialize them I get an i/o device error on both drives. Did some research and found out they are password/write protected (not surprised). I followed some advice on clearing the protection in diskpart but it still wont work. at my wits end with these things. HALP!
