LAN Port Dead?

Okay so we had some really bad thunderstorms, and my modem seemed to have stopped working so I got another one. Now my desktop LAN port seems to be acting up and when I plug in my ethernet (CAT5E) cord it makes this weird popping sound, I assume this is my LAN port and of course as result my motherboard however everything else seems to be acting fine.
