This will be my first full build other than my current PC which was built with my dad years ago and I'm actually selling it to a friend this Christmas for $400 which will go directly into this build. I just want some feedback on if the build is all compatible and anything I could do differently. My plan is to buy the parts on Cyber Monday or Black Friday or anytime before Christmas and then when I go back to visit sell my old PC to a good friend of mine. Upgrading because I think I've got more than my money's worth for this PC and it's something I use more than anything else. I enjoy building PC's and really enjoyed doing it with my dad and I want to upgrade because I've had it long enough and I think a little more power would be nice. I also get to hook a friend up with a PC, Monitor, cables, current keyboard, and my old mouse for $400 which is pretty sweet. Another issue is that two of the ram slots are out on the old motherboard and there is no point to me at least in spending more to replace the motherboard when I can and probably should just upgrade.

(Current/old PC)

CPU: Intel i5 4690k

CPU cooler: Cooler master hyper 212 EVO

Motherboard: MSI-z97 gaming 3

RAM: 16GB DDR3

HDD: 1TB Western digital

GPU: EVGA GTX 970 ACX 2.0

Case: Cooler master masterbox lite 5

Power supply: Corsair CXM 750W

New PC: Please keep in mind * I already have a 3TB WD HDD, 1TB SSD, and EVGA GTX 1070 Ti GPU *.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600

CPU Cooling: NZXT - Kraken X62 Rev 2 98.2

Motherboard: Asus - ASUS ROG STRIX B350-F GAMING

RAM: G.Skill-Trident Z RGB 16GB Or Corsair RGB Again this sort of depends on prices around the holidays and what's cheaper. Going to start with 16GB because RAM is SOO expensive right now.

*SSD: SanDisk Ultra 3d 1TB SSD & PNY 240GB SSD

*HDD: Western Digital Blue 3TB

*GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 Ti GPU 8GB SC Gaming ACX 3.0 Black Edition card.

Case: NZXT H500i ATX

PSU: EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 650W

I'm very open to suggestions and In fact, I'm looking for suggestions. Almost everything on the list other than what I already own depends on prices this holiday season. I'm mainly hoping to start buying on Cyber Monday and then wait until Black Friday and see what I can do. I'm deciding between 4 cases right now and probably will go with what's cheapest or most badass, also don't really care about RAM just want it to be RGB and the cheapest, I'm undecided on a I5-8600k or I7-8700k and that is 100% dependent on what I can get a better deal on. Oh and as far as the Power supply I'm definitely going to go with what is cheapest (within reason) and  Lastly the motherboard from my understanding one of my friends told me the Z370-E is pretty much the go-to right now and I don't see any reason on changing that unless anyone has a better suggestion or there is a super cheap one on sale.

Thanks!

Great build! You look like you have it under control. I have one suggestion though, think about including a ryzen cpu. If you’re looking for budget, don’t throw amd out of the picture. Because that mobo as I just looked up is 200 and the cpu is pretty expensive as well. Right now, you can get an amd mobo that overclocks well and looks good for around 120 usd and a ryzen 7 for 200. If you like Intel, try getting an Intel, but if ryzen CPUs go on a big sale, think about getting one. Depends on which is cheaper.

I actually was really thinking about Ryzen and I don't hate AMD by any means I've just always preferred intel and a buddy I was talking to said the ryzen doesn't have as good gaming performance and I should look to the i5-8600k as a cheaper option to the i7-8700k he recommended but I think that could just be his biased opinion. I'm definitely open to saving $200 and having identical performance. Not going to lie though if I can get an intel setup for around the same price or a little more I'm definitely going to head that way. What Ryzen processor(s) should I be looking at? And MOBO?

Also, I've never bought parts on Cyber Monday or Black Friday, do you know how much I could be able to save or am I over anticipating how much money I could save? Guess It doesn't matter because I won't have the money until then anyway.

Thanks for the response!

For gaming the i5 8600k beats the 2700x almost every time, so if the computer is mainly for gaming, internet, homework etc i would go with intel. but if you plan on doing resource intensive tasks like video editing, 3d modelling etc, the 2 extra cores and hyper-threading on the ryzen chip would be an advantage.

Here's a comparison vid for you:

Honestly, It's pretty much for Gaming, Browsing, and soon to be School Work. Only thing I do that could be considered CPU intensive tasks is some sound engineering. I record drums/guitar/bass with friends in a little band we have for fun and it's a hobby but it's nothing I'm constantly doing. That's honestly the only real thing I don't edit videos and probably won't ever and don't do any 3d modeling or digital ART of any kind. Honestly probably going to go with whatever is cheapest since I'd bet that the gaming performance difference is slim.

Thanks for the reply.

If you

If you get ryzen it won’t be close to bottlenecking bottlenecking the gpu as my friend has a ryzen 7 with a gtx 1080 ti. I think it’ll be a bonus if you can use it for productive uses. Plus it’s cheaper. Also a b350 mobo is cheap for amd and is good at overclocking. x470 mobo are more prestigious though and a little more expensive at around 120 while a b350 is around 90

Which Ryzen 7 are you talking about? From what I'm seeing they're still more expensive than the i5-8600k. Also what Mobo? Links would be nice.

Also, I forgot, on sale it will be even cheaper so In my opinion, this is a steal when it’s on sale

You changed my mind quite a bit! After doing some research and seeing how the Ryzen 5 2600 is $164! and you can get a cheaper motherboard I think I'm sold. From what I've seen the 8600k will perform better but only marginally better and with that alone I'd rather just save money and go with the 2600 but after researching people are saying the 2600 will be more future proof and has more threads which can help with streaming and other software plus more games are starting to require more threads. I'm pretty much sold because I'm definitely someone who likes future proofing my stuff and saving money. I also know AMD usually has better sales than Intel.

Thanks, I guess the question is which AMD processor? I'm sort of set on the 2600 after researching and finding it for $164. What MOBO would go great with that and can I still use the NZXT Kraken X62 liquid Cooler?
