I know this sounds stupid, but check stuff like if your display cables aren't plugged in all the way, if your monitor isn't powered on, basic things like that.

That would happen to me often, and I found that the monitor wasn't on the right source. Check your monitor source and see if it's all working..

I've checked, uplugged cables, put them back in and stuff. Still no luck.

If what @1kv has said still doesn't work, try replacing cables. Maybe it's a faulty cable.

Maybe. You could have torn or ripped them. It's surprising how damaged your cables can get! 

It also may be a faulty port or your monitor could be acting up. With a problem like this the possibilities are infinite.
