How much RAM for Android Studio?

I have a system with 8GB of RAM. Planning to upgrade it to 12 GB of RAM.

 

Question is, how much RAM should I allocate if I upgrade to 12 GB RAM.

 

And what if I stay with 8GB RAM, then how much RAM should I allocate? Currently it recommends 2GB

It recommends 8gb for the app. I would give it 9gb. I would also upgrade to a 16gb kit so you have some leeway for other programs.

The official developer website states 3GB as minimum requirement. But 4GB should be good to go. In your case 8GB is more than enough. Emulator runs on vanilla android. Unless you develop games, 2GB is more than enough for the emulator.
