Looking to build new pc, which CPU:

·Intel Core i5-8400 @ 2.80GHz 6 cores

·Intel Core i7-7700 @ 3.60GHz 4 cores

I would assume i7 is better and has higher clock and more number of samples. but https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i5-8400-vs-Intel-i7-7700/3097vs2905 gives i5 a higher grade. Which one, budget preferrable :)

Youre really only losing 2 threads for an IPC gain with the 8400. I would probably go with the 8400 in this case.

i5 8400 is better in this case cause whole platform has good budget mobos and you can upgrade later to 6c/12t i7 if you want to while with i7 7700 you are getting dead end on platform.

Get the 8400 because you have an upgrade path to the 8700 or 9700 when it is released. Also it will probably be supported by Intel for longer (drivers etc).

-Parts-

Core i7 8086k 4.0GHz (4.6GHz OC) - ASUS z390 ROG Maximus XI code - Corsair H115i - 16GB (2 x 8GB) G.SKILL Trident Z RGB 3600MHz - Windforce GTX 1050Ti - Corsair HX750i - Corsair Obsidian 500D RGB SE

-Upgrades when I get the money-

Undecided on the GPU - ASUS ROG PG278QR 1440p 144Hz (165Hz OC)

Thank you all for the response, think it's clear which one then. Appreciate it. Good community right here
