Installing Intel network driver freezing pc

i have a asus z97 pro wifi motherboard

 

ive installed the driver fine before, this was years ago when i built it. but today i formatted my pc, tried to install the driver and it just freezes, ive tried the one from Asus and intel, both freeze. 

 

i was on bios 2702 but updated for the spectre fix, and formatted at the same time, so flashed 2702 again but no luck.

 

thats all ive changed apart from a newer version of Windows 10 to install from, but i dont see how that can effect it and i cant do anything about that

 

this is as far as i get, i dont even get to press next, the intel one gets abit further but still freezes

 

ive tried manually searching for the driver in devide manager and it says it up to date but that doesnt solve the issue

 

any ideas?

Update

 

i decided just to format and install all drivers but the network one

 

then i did a windows update and thought maybe ill try to install it again and it worked.... so maybe the windows just needed to be updated? not really sure but it seemed to install fine

Which version of Windows 10 did you install?

Using the April Update 1803 in conjunction with the latest Intel drivers on a Z97 chipset seems to freeze the OS.

yea version 1803 build 17134.81
