USB Cable not working properly

So basically, I have a 1TB WD MyPassport USB HDD that the cable for it only works through a USB hub but not when connected directly to the computer, Any Ideas as to why?

Have you tried a different cable? I have one of those drives and have not had any problems at all with it. I use a USB-3 cable with it connected to USB-3 on the mobo, no problems.

try a diff cable?

Is the USB hub powered by an external source?
Maybe your USB ports are not able to supply enough power for the disk to run.

The front USB ports are not able to do this on my Medion desktop, as well as the USB port on my Thinkpad 10.
If you use a desktop you could try to use the rear ports on the motherboard. In case of a laptop I would try all of the ports.
