Kernel Error and Unable to boot

My girlfriend's laptop is 8 years old and it keeps crashing. Today, a kernel error appeared and now it won't even boot. None of the disks work and we're unable to boot it.

Any advice?

Try cleaning the fan as a start, then see if the laptop will boot with the battery taken out. If neither of those help, then try system file checker. When you say won't boot though, do you get any error messages or will it not post now at all? Also what are the specs?
