UPS recommendations for Gaming Rig and Router

Grimfrost769

I am looking for a few recommendations on a UPS. It does not need to be too serious or anything too heavy duty. I would like to place my gaming rig, peripherals, and comcast router on it. I do not think I will need more than 6 outlets or a battery that would last beyond a few hours. USB would be a plus, but not necessary. Thanks in advance.

First thing would be to calculate how much power all these devices combined could pull from it

PC pulls something like 504-515w from the wall from a power supply calculation. I may plan to go SLI in the future and go to a 1000w power supply up from my 650w G3. Comcast router...I am unsure of. Also not sure of where to get that data from. I will research that.

if you want it to last a few hours you'll need 15kva, at least

UPS batteries are made to last 5 minutes so you can turn off your computer safely, an UPS that can deliver 750W should be enough, but if you're going to upgrade go for 1KW output

remember screen wattage is around:

CRT = 125w

LCD = ~50W

LED = ~35W

router = 10W

and that VA is not equal to W, if you have 800VA at 65% efficiency you'll only have 520W, just an example

ASUS X470-PRO • R7 1700 4GHz • Corsair H110i GT P/P • 2x MSI RX 480 8G • Corsair DP 2x8 @3466 • EVGA 750 G2 • Corsair 730T • Crucial MX500 250GB • WD 4TB

Good point. Maybe an hour at the most. Forget a few hours. That would be a really expensive UPS.

I feel a UPS in the 1000-1400VA range may be sufficient for my needs.

with 1400VA even if your computer is idling you won't be able to use it for more than 10 minutes with insane power saving plan, your router might last for 2 hours since it's only around 10W but only if everything else is turned off and the batteries are at 100%

that's 1000VA at 60%, should be enough for 5-10min with your current build, if you're getting a SLI and a bigger PSU then go for a 1500 one

if you need to use your rig more you should get your own diesel generator ^_^
