I replaced my RAM and PC won't boot with new RAM installed. I've tried the new memory on every slot with and without XMP activated. (mobo has an XMP button) and the system didn't boot. If I plug the old memory in, the system starts with no problem.

I've also pressed the MemOK! button several times and still no post.

Using a jumper I've cleared the RTC RAM in CMOS.

With the old memory the LEDs light in this order: CPU_LED, DRAM_LED, VGA_LED, BOOT_DEVICE_LED then boots to Windows, but with the new memory it goes like this: CPU_LED, DRAM_LED x3 and no boot.

Can this be a case of RAM being DOA?

My specs are:

  • CPU: i7 6700k
  • Motherboard: Asus Z170A Bios versio 3703, latest.
  • Old RAM: Crucial 4GB DDR4 2133MHz CL15 CT4G4DFS8213
  • New RAM: HyperX Fury Black 8GB DDR4 2400MHz CL15 1.2v HX424C15FB2/8
  • GPU: Zotac GTX 970 Reference
  • PSU: Zalman ZM600-LX 600W
  • SSD: Transcend 128GB M.2 TS128XBTMT3D58G
  • HDD: WD Blue 1TB Desktop HDD
  • Windows 10 Home x64

It might be dead RAM because the DRAM light flashes 3 times I am assuming it is having a hard time finding the new RAM sticks and it most likely isn't a MOBO problem as the old RAM still works

Yeah, I've tried to start it without any ram installed and it has the same behavior.

It's very possible. Happens more often than you would think to get DOA RAM.

Update: They replaced the faulty RAM under warranty and surprise, no post with the new module.

I took the CPU out, inspected again for bent pins and they are ok. (Will post pictures)

Tomorrow I will take the mobo to a PC store and have them check with their own RAM.

I've contacted Asus and they said maybe Kingston changed they revision of RAM and the new one might not be supported.
