AMD Phenom X4 965 memory controller issues?

Go to solution Solved by Crunchy Dragon,

Try updating the BIOS and see if it behaves any differently. Also see if all 4 DIMMs will register with the X2 550 installed.

Welcome to the forums!

Alright, so last year I bought a used desktop (AMD Phenom X2 550, Nvidia Geforce 9800GT, Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P Motherboard) and a Phenom X4 965 from my local FreeGeek, and I noticed when I installed the X4 965 that I lost the functionality of two of the four DIMM slots on my motherboard. Recently, I noticed that only one DIMM slot was working properly. Could this be a bad memory controller or is it just a simple BIOS update fix?

1) Yeah they sell really great stuff at mine. My friend got a GTX 950 there for $75.

2) I'm gonna try that in a couple weeks with someone who knows what they're doing. And I believe my friend has my X2 550 lying around somewhere, I'll ask him about it.

3) Thanks a bunch!

Update: both dimm slots work, it might be that my 2gb stick died. Overall system stability has gone down over the past few days, even after tweaking BIOS settings and downclocking my CPU by 100mhz
