Got a laptop for repair, and it is being extremely weird...

I work in IT, I am not completely clueless, I have googled for hours now and tried all of the obvious.

The BCD is corrupt, so of course I follow the on screen instructions, "Press F1 to enter Recovery Environment"

Infinite loop.

I can't get past it. Can't boot. Not to Windows, not to a USB, not a recovery, not even to the Windows Creation Tool.

I get the BIOS Splash, MSI, a loading icon swirl underneath it, and then a black screen forever or I get the BCD error, press F1 to go to recovery, which brings me right back around to BCD error, press F1.

I have gone through every BIOS option, and looked for an update.

I am at a loss now.

Normally you can still boot to a usb drive, check the boot order in the bios and put the usb in top

Re-read my post.

If you plug a usb drive does it show up under the boot order menu ?

Yes.

And when I try to boot to it, I get a splash screen, *MSI*, and a twirling Windows Logo, then a black screen forever.

Could you read the original post before commenting please? This is really a waste of time. I already said all of this.

Sigh,

Remove the hard drive entirely and all but one ram stick and try to boot again with the usb drive.

Can't take the laptop apart without voiding the warranty, and since it's not mine, I can't do that.

Well I doubt I or anyone in this forum will be able to help you, sorry about that. Advise the owner to send his computer back to MSI for a repair.

That was my fear.
Last ditch effort.
