New Teamspeak Server Help

Go to solution Solved by yummiesttag,

A nuc would work fine, I found a thread on ts3's forum someone suggested a 1core 768mb ram VPS for a 100-200 slot server.

from my personal hosting I used a laptop from 2007 that had 4gb of ram and some old CPU from 2007 and it worked fine for around 40 people.

I am a noob at this, but my friends and I have been playing multiple MMOs and MOBAs (and Battle Royale games) recently. We initially started using Discord for chat, but excluding me and a select few, no one liked the Discord in-game tab made available by Overwolf. Some went over it to hate Overwolf. Being a single person in a group of 37, and the sole one having good knowledge of hardware and software, I was confronted by everyone saying I need to find a new way to chat in-game. Now I heard of TeamSpeak, and it's advantages over Mumble and Skype and Discord. The first 2 had certain problems, so the only remaining option was TeamSpeak. Now I cannot make my parents pay for costly TeamSpeak servers, because they are anyways making me a badass gaming/workstation pc already. My grandparents were the next, but no one will be ready to pay subscriptions. So they said I can ask for something else. Like games. But I have over 300 games in Steam, so why buy more, when more than 20 are unplayed?

Thus I went in to make a TeamSpeak server. My laptop (with an i7-7500U and GTX 1050 {It's a Dell XPS 15!}) and my sole gaming machine, was not a good server, and couldn't run the desktop client simultaneously. I wasn't connected to the internet always, so they couldn't play when I was offline.

Now comes the main deal: I am making an always online TeamSpeak server, with enough bandwidth for 37 people. I'll connect my personal WiFi from Alliance Broadband to it, which gives 100MBps speed. All I want is specifications for this server. I'll use water-cooling if possible, because I like silent systems. It should be a resilient system, even able to hold simultaneous voice input from all 37 clients. Space is no problem. I'll be using a non-profit license from TeamSpeak, which can have 2 servers and 512 clients and is completely free. And tell me if I was wrong in any way, and private TeamSpeak servers don't work this way. I'm pretty sure I am entirely correct, but there is always a margin of error. (I am not reverting back to paid online TeamSpeak servers)

Also I don't believe a dedicated server is completely nessesry and would be a bit overkill. And I'm not sure how much research you have done but you have to apply for a nonprofit license and have a dedicated website with no ads or donation areas.

I'm completely understand with this situation, lot's of voip services are being blocked by certain countries, so maybe that is the issue.

as for building teamspeak server, I have no idea, I never build one, all I do is join a someone server, or a free server. https://freeteamspeak.pw/site/faq

Teamspeak 3 servers don't use a lot of computational power. You could use a spare laptop or desktop and connect to the internet using ethernet. I wouldn't build a machine just for a small Teamspeak 3 server unless you want to use it for other things as well.

Well then

What if I use something like an Intel Nuc as a server?

I found out that I will take away adding/removing power from everyone in our group on TeamSpeak. I will host a physical server. I'll kick out people I don't know. Problem solved. I will use the basic account of TeamSpeak. 1 server, 32 slots. Thanks a lot for your help.

I will start my server tomorrow, on a spare Intel Nuc I got on my birthday, which I use as a media device.

That should work perfectly fine. If you need help with permissions I could help out. But they aren't that hard once you get use the the structure.

Btw thanks a lot.

My friends love the idea.

Especially a close one who dislikes Discord and Overwolf as hell
