Hello Comunity,

I bought an Asus Strix Rx480 8gb recently and put it into my new build budget system.

Specs:

Spoiler

GPU: Asus Strix Rx480 O8G Gaming

CPU: Ryzen 5 1600

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming 3

Memory: 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX LP DDR4 3200mhz

PSU: 500Watt coolermaster

OS: Win 10 64bit

After setting the system up  i'm starting to overclock the system and got after some days running stable overclocks a wired issue with "Asus Gpu Tweak II" (latest Version / already tested second last version too)

When I setup my overclock and press apply in the programm the settings move down to an underclock automaticly. Even if I try to load the setting for the "Factory Overclock" at 1310mhz its sets GPU clock and Memory clock down to an underclock. I was able to fix that problem for a day after reinstalling the latest AMD Radeon version ( 17.10.3 ) but after a restart of the System i got the same underclock problem and heavy issues in Games with missing textures and crashes.

So i went back to version (17.7.2) where games run stable but the over- underclock problem still hurts performance with these automatic underclock.

BTW: The bugged clock is even lower than economy settings from GPU Tweak II.

I know my 500Watt PSU is a bit weak for an Overclocked Ryzen 5 1600 and Overclocked rx-480 but i keep the overclock low at the moment.

Yesterday I tested GPU and CPU with benchmarks ( Prime95 and 3dmark) and they run stable for 2.5 hours. Just when I run both at once I got a crash. So maybe the PSU its already a problem?

To my knowlegde  that can't resolve  in an auto underclock when apply an overclock, normaly i should simply crash when asked for too much power.

Is there anyone who can help me with these problem?

Would be nice to get some input of others.

Best regarts

Jan K.

I'm sorry for misspelling and gramaticall mistakes.

Hello,

sorry for that late reply.

I switched between GPU-Drivers Radeon-Settings-Versions and Overclocking tools and finaly fixed that error.

Now im running the 3rd last Radeon-Settings-Version with the newest GPU driver and overclocked my GPU with Wattman(included in the Radeon-Settings program.

Its not perfect to use (Fan controll is s**** when you know other tools)

What ever im running stable 1360mhz with no issue to apply an overclock i wanna try.

When im bored i'll install GPU Tweak II again and test again with the "mixed" Drivers

Will Update these than.

Thanks for your support guys!

see you

-Jan

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry it took some time to finish my testing with GPU Tweak II.

My whole issue was created with these programm and after overclocking with other tools I can clock my Graphiccard up and down however I like it.

So... in fact... just stay away from these programm and use some more used tools which get better support.

thanks for your help guys.

see you next time.
