Whats the rest of your specs (ram amount and video card)?  If its Frame rate lag that means the textures the game needs is not in VRAM or in your system DRAM so it has to pull from disk instead which is much slower, SSD's can serve up those missing textures much faster.

If you're in a game that loads a lot while playing, like driving in GTA V, you will notice lag exactly like you're describing.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

To be honest, I don't know how anyone can stand the noise these Toshiba hard drives make when they're running unless I have a bad egg that make enough noise to wake the dead regardless of what way it's being secured into a case.

Regardless of that, I ran crystal disk mark on my 2TB Toshiba since it's the same model and my sequential results were lower although that can most likely be because it is 70% full with the 4k results being about the same and I haven't had any frame rate drops unless a drive is being slammed by another process, but I've found that my Toshiba drive has a new quirk in that it's performance mode has been disabled and the read/write hard will park itself after a few minutes and then restart a few minutes after that.

What I would suggest trying (and I'm having to do this to stop the constant hard parking and unparking) is to force performance mode on the drive which can be done in crystal disk info through the feature menu (it's the AAM/APM Control in the Advance Feature sub menu that you need to select) then select the specific drive from the dropdown menu and move the slider in the advanced power management section all the way over to the right so that the text in the box next to it shows FEh and click the enable button beneath it, but if that doesn't work then the only thing I can suggest is getting a new hard drive to see if it works without any frame rate drops.
