Will lowering screen resolution improve performance?

I'm using one of these http://www.microcenter.com/product/440932/tw802_tablet_-_black in my car to power my backseat displays. With this, basically tiny computer, I can have games or live TV (YouTube) on the TVs in my car. But the screens are wide screen RCA (approx. 720x480) so I figure if I lower the output resolution to that or something close to it, text might be sharper, items will be larger on the tiny screens, but beyond that... will this help my overall system performance? Especially given this system's fairly low specs.

Yes, it's 2871 as in the year 2871. I traveled all this way, back in time, just to help you. And you thought your mama lied when she said you were special-_-

I would think so, but I don't believe the Windows interface is designed to be used on displays smaller than 720p.  You might find that certain settings menus, etc. appear with buttons off-screen and are simply unusable.  In fact, I'd be surprised if it even lets you pick anything under 800 x 600

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Well, even 800x600 would maybe be better? I would want it to be 16:9. I'm resetting the PC right now, so I'll know more about the options later.

Closest thing might be 1024 x 600.  Not quite 16:9 but it's close, and it's the lowest I can go (well other than 800 x 600).  I will be interested to hear if your device is different... I suspect not.

If not, is there a way to modify Windows to allow for an even lower setting? I just need Chrome to work. Might emulate some old games, but if I do I'll keep that stuff to myself xD totally legal emulation, of course! But for now I'll be happy with Chrome for live TV.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is some registry hack or something, but as I said, you might get stuck in an unusable situation, so I'd do that with extreme caution if you try

Well wait, can't I set this on a per screen basis? I'd only be using the external display (duplicated via cables, not within the computer) with the internal, still full res. screen set to off. If I did mess it all up, I'd just unplug the HDMI cable and my internal display on the tablet should still be normal size. But off otherwise, to further save on resources. (plus, it's stashed under a car seat, don't need the mouse over on a screen I can't even see...)

Ah, I suppose so.  I was thinking only about the main display :P
