I have an issue with sabertooth z87 motherboard. it crashes on heaven benchmark 4.0 if i use my new power supply. a 850w seasonic focus plus, the psu is not defective as i have tested it on another motherboard and the benchmarks work fine. however, when i use my old 750w seasonic x series. i can run the benchmarks just fine also. also my gpu seems fine as i used that gpu for the other motherboard tests and it benchmarked fine.

i should clarify that my monitor loses the input signal and goes black. yet i can still hear windows sounds.

please help me with any ideas if you have them.

When you tested out the 850w psu with another mobo did you also used the same card ? And via the same pin connector to the videocard ? I'm asking because the way you describe things it could be that there is a problem with the PSU connection to the GPU.

i used different cables each time i bought a new psu, the ones that came in the box. i have also tested the same cable which worked on the old mobo, new psu, gtx 970.

the configurations that work:

new 850w psu, old motherboard, gtx 970

old 750w psu(only 3 years old), new motherboard(same one but newer that my old one :P), gtx 970

old 750w, old mobo, gtx 970.

what doesn't work:

new psu, new mobo, new gpu.

the gtx 670 that i have works on all configs ive tried regardless. i have also tested the ram and that checks out fine.

its a really odd issue that i have. i also tried using different ports on the psu, so theres possibly an issue with the gpu side connector.

edit never mind i read wrong*

no its actually good, you made me go back and double check everything and i found i was using a 7 to 8 pin connector whereas a 6 to 8 pin was required for the 970. it seems to be working now the benchmark has been going for 10 mins and no issues have arisen.

thanks for your help kind internet stranger :)
