Crashplan has announced that they are ending their personal backup service soon and I'm looking for a good alternative for backing up all my home computers to a single NAS or server? I have a server running esxi that I can spin any kind of VM as needed.

Your opinions are greatly appreciated,

Nuck

one route a lot of people seem to like in these situations is to use a NAS enclosure such as something from Synology, QNAP, or ASUSTOR (Asus' storage division), to name a few. These enclosures have very friendly interfaces and are known for being convenient, efficient, and low maintenance. If you do go this route, just please make sure hard drives you put in the system are:

1.) Rated for NAS use (current Seagate branding: IronWolf)
2.) Mentioned on the vendor's compatibility list.

P.S.

Nice to see Seagate making a presence in the community. I believe I may have seen you over on /r/homelab or /r/datahoarder. You guys are awesome.

I've been thinking about starting up a freenas box or trying out ZFS on Linux for a while. I think I might go that route.

Thanks for the reply,

Nuck
