Issues with HyperX Cloud II Headset

I bought these today and the sound is perfect but the mic isn't picking up anything whatsoever. I've looked all over the place and the only things I've found are "make sure they're enabled and set to default in your audio manager" or "make sure your drivers are all up to date", and none of these have had any effect. I'm leaning towards the headset being defective but I saw somewhere that your motherboard has to be able to take 2 in 1 audio USBs or something along those lines? I have no idea if this is true or not but I'd be grateful if I could get some clarification from someone that knows what's going on at all, thanks.

Are you using the USB dongle or 3.5mm direct into the computer?
