Hi all,

I am stuck with a big problem in our company where I just can't put the finger on the issue... I don't even know if this is the right place for this Topic.

Let me try to explain the best I can.

In our Company we have 2 Fileservers (SLES) and Windows 10 Clients (1607) with Novell Clients installed (OES 2 SP4 IR4). With the Novell Clients we map network drives connecting to one of the file servers. On the Fileserver we host an selfmade application which is started via .exe file hosted in one of the network drives. We noticed that about 2 Months ago, when we start that application, the client performance goes down! The CPU and Ram are below average but still the system is slow. The Clients also have SSDs inside.

So I fired up Process Explorer to check what is causing the performance drop. Nothing special to see in the cpu usage (mostly about 10-20%). I then started the Process Monitor and noticed a huge spam of NetBios-ssn to our Fileserver! (See pic below). The NetBios-SSN starts about 50times per second... Since it is not possible to kill the System process, I deactivate the network adapter. Instant the performance of the client is normal again. When starting the application again, the same happens... The Application is just for writing down worktime, etc..

I went back to the process explorer to check which thread is causing this traffic. But since you don't get a deep view into the system process there is nothing special to see. I posted the Thread overview below.

Now I am lost and can't find a way to narrow it down more... Is it the Win10 OS, the Network Card/Driver, the novell client, the fileserver... I am stuck.

Does anyone have an Idea how I can troubleshoot this??

One more thing to say, this NetBios Traffic is not always... it is spontaneously on some clients, then on others.

Thank you!

Mike
