Old game running suspicious

So I recently booted up an old game by the name of Ascension to the throne. It was laggy at first so I just thought it was a bad port, but then I saw it was maxing out my gpu which is fairly new and since this game requires only 128mb of vram and a P4 I am like wtf? Anyone with a solution on how to fix this?

Be careful where you got the game. There could be malware inside that is using your PC as a cryptocurency miner.

I would advise to run a scan with malware bytes

Sorry for the late reply. I downloaded it through the same place I downloaded it when I was a child and I ran malware bytes and they did not detect anything.
