Windows 10 no programs when searching in taskbar

Go to solution Solved by tribeldragon,

Sadly I found a fix that is not the most efficient but it works for me. I created a new user on my windows machine which the search functionality works again like normal. Have not found a better way to fix this issue.

When I search in my taskbar for programs to open("Say for example VMWare workstationc44b14bf7ef770281cf2bf8b6dd1565b.mp4"). It wont show the program that I'm looking for, only files with similar names.

To hopefully speeds things up a bit, I've tried this solution that I find: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-win_cortana/cortana-not-finding-desktop-apps-when-searching/f612e995-6664-4b91-b6ae-96790e763858.

The device in question is a Dell XPS 13 9360.

I made a video an attached it.

Click on the little folder icon on your taskbar. Then click on C drive. Open the program files, and program files (x86). You should find the app folder in one of those. Unless your trying to fix Cortana, in which case....good luck.

Best Excuses:

#1(simple) "Well, I never liked that stupid thing anyway!"

#2(complex) "Obviously there was a flaw in the material, probably due to the inadvertent introduction of contaminants during the manufacturing process."

Can't help you then. I don't use Cortana. Sorry.

Yes I know. I've been using windows since 95, but the link you provided was about Cortana. If you use the info I gave you to find the app, you can make a shortcut to anywhere you want. I can't help you "fix" the search function of windows 10, that's a bit over my head. Sorry I couldn't help.
