My Boottime sucks...

Hello,

I'm running a 6600k @ 4.5ghz; 16GB 2133 MHZ Ram, 960 Pro on a asus z170 pro gaming and the Booting of my PC kinda sucks.

It takes like 25-30s to start Windows. For like 20-25s it shows a "black" screen (monitors are on, so the black is more likely a grey). so i assuming that my BIOS settings are wrong. what can i do to debug this. it kinda feels wrong.

is the boot drive an HDD or an SSD?

If it's an HDD, you'll see better boot times by adding an SSD to the system as the OS drive.

The 960 Pro series is the NVMe SSD Series of Samsung. so jeah.

Whops. Saw 960 and was thinking of GPU.

In that case, it sounds like the bulk of the time is spent POST-ing, and not loading the OS.

Is the BIOS up to date? If not, you could try updating it.

Haven't messed around with Intel MSI boards in a while, but they should still have something like "fast boot" somewhere in the options. Enabling that might help (it did help me on a 970 Gaming, pretty much halving my POST time. Can't guarantee it'll do much for you, though)

Mhm, why the hell i never thought of updating bios might help. i will try as soon as i find a usb stick :)

Fast Boot Option is present but has no impact at all. i tried enabeld and disabled but neither did better or worst, maybe the bios update will fix that.

Ensure you don't have the "bios delay" on 5-10-15 seconds. 0 should be an option. At least with my Asus board it is, I'm not sure about MSI.
