Posted May 18, 2017 Hello, I have a gaming pc that is very capable of running AAA games at 4k (i7, 1070, 16gb ram, etc). Yet my 4k monitor only has one input, which is display port. I want to be able to use my xbox one on that monitor. The xbox one only has hdmi output, so I need an ACTIVE hdmi > display port adapter. Yet all that I am finding is display port > hdmi. I don't want to buy one of them and not have it work as it is intended for a display port input and output to a hdmi display. Yet I need it the other way around. I don't want to use the xbox streaming app, I want it to display directly off the 4k monitor (yes I know it only outputs 1080). Does anyone know of any way to know if an adapter will work in reverse or know of an adapter that is intended for display port input and hdmi output that is still an active adapter? Active would mean there is "active" conversion circuitry inside the adapter which typically makes them more expensive and only work one way. And I'd think there'd be one, as they have adapters for pretty much anything. It's not any better the active part is usually just needed for different standards. For example DVI carries a VGA signal, also HDMI pretty much DVI with a smaller connector and can't carry audio. HDMI and DP have no relation, so there is a need to actively convert the video signal. Not really any better or worse.
