Voltage settings during OC

I have a phenom II x4 955 BE on an Asus M4A88t-M.

If I put cpu overvoltage settings to auto will it go over AMD specifications for stability during OC or will it stay within AMD's specified limits?

One does not overclock with automatic voltage, you start with stock see how far it takes you and only when reaching a limit one raises the voltage, with that said if the mobo is the LE version forget about overclocking, if its the usb3 version apply some cooling on the vrm area, and don't go to high on the voltage.

And why should I give up overclocking because my phenom overclocks to 3.8 without increasing voltages (if we are worried about the vrm area).
