Webcam won't work

Every time I try to do a video call or take a picture with my laptop's built in webcam, it doesn't work. It just displays an image of a camera with a diagonal line though it. The little light next to the webcam even lights up like it should to tell me that the webcam is being used. Does anybody have a solution?
